Facebook Brings Back Poke Button

Facebook has re-released its famous ‘Poke’ feature, a recent design update to Facebook has made the Poke button more accessible and visible, which will indirectly lead to an increase in Facebook usage.

What is Poke?

The famous feature of old Facebook, ‘Poke’ allows users to poke other users on Facebook, it can be friends or strangers to grab their attention or add, chat, or even simply say hello.

When Facebook was founded back in 2004, the poke feature was designed as an ice-breaker for users to start a chat with each other. But, after years of changes in design, features, and accessibility, Meta decided to withdraw the Poke button by completely removing it from the profiles of online users.

What now?

After the rebranding of the Poke button, Facebook has noted a 13 times more spike in poking activity on Facebook. Users with ages 18 to 29 used Poke more since it was re-branded in a more accessible way.

On Facebook’s 20th anniversary, the administration brought back a nostalgic way to reconnect with friends. Meta further implemented smaller updates to improve the feature, including suggesting more relevant persons poke. Suggestions resonated with the users which later caused the spike of 13x on the platform.
