Adaptations are just one of the many ways you’ll learn to survive and adjust to the alien planet in Subnautica 2. These adaptations are genetic changes your character undergoes, enabling you to develop alien features, like being able to eat and digest the strange marine creatures found here.

From the start, you’ll be introduced to this concept. One of the first tasks NoA assigns when you wake up is to use a nearby Angel Comb to unlock the ability to breathe pressurized air. As you progress, you’ll be able to unlock more adaptations using the same method, but you’ll need to find the Angel Combs yourself.

Currently, Subnautica 2 is in Early Access. You can see six adaptations listed in the menu, but the bottom two are not yet officially added and remain unknown.

All Angel Comb locations:

  • Pressure Tolerance Adaptation: Allows you to breathe pressurized air.
This is part of the tutorial and unmissable. If you want to revisit the starting wreck site, it’s located 600 meters directly south of the lifepod at a depth of 580 meters.

  • Digestion Adaptation: Lets you digest the planet’s marine life to restore food and water.
Found 160 meters north-northeast (25 degrees) of the lifepod at a 3-meter depth.

  • Heat Tolerance Adaptation: Enables you to withstand higher temperatures.
Located 200 meters west-northwest (300 degrees) of the lifepod at 50 meters depth.
The nodes for this adaptation are:

    • North Node: 241 meters north-northwest (340 degrees) of the lifepod at 17 meters deep.
    • Southwest Node: 233 meters west-southwest (245 degrees) at 70 meters depth.
  • Axum Vision Adaptation: Interacts with Axum technology.
Found 1,760 meters east-northeast (75 degrees) of the lifepod at 425 meters deep.
There are three node locations, requiring the Feedback Resonator to clear infected needs:

    1. Under the Observatory Tower (1,175 meters east of the lifepod at 180 meters deep).
    2. Along the edge of the Power Plant (1,516 meters east-southeast at 305 meters deep).
    3. Inside a cave reachable via a Cicada Wreck site (2,150 meters east of the lifepod at 320 meters deep).

To clear infected nodes, you’ll use tools like the Sonic Resonator, upgraded with the Feedback Resonator to shoot from a distance, particularly when dealing with infected Canker Blooms that close up when approached directly.

You can find nodes by following the purple vines of the Titan Rockbore extending from each Angel Comb, which makes locating these nodes easier.

Here are the current Angel Comb locations with their nodes:

Angel Comb Location Details Image
Pressure Tolerance
Start of tutorial, 600m south of lifepod, at 580m deep.
The initial Angel Comb, part of the tutorial.
Digestion
160m north-northeast of the lifepod, at 3m deep.
Digest marine life to restore resources. Image
Heat Tolerance
200m west-northwest of the lifepod at 50m.
With nodes at 17m and 70m depths requiring clearing with Sonic Resonator. Image
Axum Vision
1,760m east-northeast, 425m deep.
Three node locations requiring the Feedback Resonator, inside caves and wrecks. Image

Note that clearing infected nodes involves specific tools and methods, especially for the last two Angel Combs, which have infected Canker Blooms that close if approached directly. Using the Feedback Resonator upgrade allows you to attack from a distance, making the process safer and more efficient.
