Troilite is a resource you won’t see in Subnautica 2 until NoA tells you to explore the Tadpole Pens and you’ve reached the Alien Ruins. When you get there, your map will almost double in size, revealing many new resource spots and research locations to check out.

Most of this area is full of dangerous predators, so it’s best to stay inside your Tadpole animal for most of your exploration. Also, it’s wise to build a second base nearby before going all-in on gathering resources, since returning to your lifepod from this zone is long and risky.

Best Places to Farm Troilite

Once at the Alien Ruins, you’ll notice a tall tower that stretches to the surface. Going east past this, you’ll find a large dome-shaped structure with a Heat Pipe in the center and a Bloom underneath it.

Continue northeast through a canyon, and you’ll come across an area with a glowing green liquid covering the ground. If you’re in the right spot, you’ll receive a notification that you’ve entered the Metal Farms.

This zone is teeming with enemies, so be careful when collecting resources outside your Tadpole. Here, you’ll find deposits that look like Titanium but are covered with a bioluminescent green material — this is Troilite.

To mine Troilite, you’ll need your Sonic Resonator. Make sure it’s equipped before you step out of your Tadpole. Deposits are scattered throughout the area, so look for the green glow to find them. While here, you can also farm Axum Bacterial Culture from the liquid substance on the ground.
