Atacamite isn’t used in many recipes in Subnautica 2, but you’ll need it if you want to upgrade your Air Tank to its best version and unlock the secondary depth upgrade for your Tadpole. Since it’s mainly used for advanced upgrades later in the game, you won’t find Atacamite near the lifepod. Instead, you’ll need to reach the Alien Ruins after exploring the Tadpole Pens. Before grabbing Atacamite, you’ll also have to gather some other materials to perform the necessary upgrades to get to the deposits.
Best Places to Find Atacamite
All Atacamite deposits are located below the maximum depth your base-model Tadpole can handle. Therefore, you’ll either need to upgrade your Tadpole or drop it off at 250 meters and do the rest of the dive on your own. Because diving deep into the Alien Ruins area can be very risky, it’s best to upgrade your Tadpole for safety.
Note: Atacamite looks similar to Titanium, so be sure not to mistake one for the other when collecting.
Where to Look for Atacamite Deposits
Some of the top locations to farm Atacamite include:
-
Alien Ruins — Heat Pipe/Bloom Core:
About 1,770 meters east of the lifepod and 455 meters deep. To find it, head towards the Alien Ruins and swim past the tower reaching the surface until you see a large dome-like structure. In the center, there’s a Heat Pipe with a Bloom Core on a Titan Rockbore beneath it. Near the Bloom Core on the ground, you’ll spot scattered Atacamite deposits. -
Alien Ruins — Outer Edge of Heat Pipe Dome:
About 1,465 meters east of the lifepod and 300 meters deep. Near the large dome mentioned above, you’ll find Atacamite deposits on the sand at a shallower depth. There’s also a research table nearby with the TUBA: New Recipe data log and a scan for Improved Fins, which can help you locate the spot more precisely.
Tips for Collecting Atacamite
To gather Atacamite, you’ll need a Sonic Resonator. Make sure it’s equipped in your toolbar, and keep your inventory clear for collecting materials. If possible, upgrade your Tadpole’s storage capacity through modifications or chassis improvements to carry more materials safely.
Additional Notes
- All Atacamite locations are deep; therefore, upgrading your boat or diving equipment is strongly recommended to prevent dangerous situations.
- Be careful when searching for Atacamite, as some deposits are in areas that require diving beyond your current equipment’s limits.
