In Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, you can catch many creatures like frogs, rats, snakes, and even those Snake is willing to eat. But the most difficult to find is the Tsuchinoko.
This creature is a chunky, snake-like figure from Japanese folklore. While some believe they’ve seen one in real life, there’s no proof it exists outside stories. In this game universe, however, you can catch a Tsuchinoko if you know where and how. It’s only possible in certain locations and with a specific method, which we’ll explain.
How to Catch a Tsuchinoko
To catch a Tsuchinoko, you need to use a mousetrap. These traps are located inside enemy buildings and bases. Here are some spots where you can find them:
- Bolshaya Past Base – Under a bed in the main building and in the wooden shack.
- Ponizovje Warehouse – On the second floor.
- Graniny Gorki Lab B1: East – Inside a prison cell.
While exploring, you’ll see Snake placing down a mousetrap. To do this, equip the trap, aim at the ground, and press the ‘fire’ button to place it. After setting traps, you’ll return to the area later, often finding a caught creature, which might be the Tsuchinoko.
In the Tikogornyj area, if you previously captured one but lost it when your gear was taken, you can tranquilize the Tsuchinoko there too.
Where to Find a Tsuchinoko
The Tsuchinoko can appear in a few key locations:
- Bolshaya Past South
- Graniny Gorki South
- Sokrovenno
- Tikogornyj (only if you had one earlier and lost it when gear was taken)
The Best Spot to Catch One
The top place to find a Tsuchinoko is Graniny Gorki South, which you reach right after the warehouse. The strategy is simple: place the mousetraps in that area, go into the warehouse, then come back to check the traps. This quick turnaround often results in catching something by the time you return.
You can also collect mousetraps by crawling over them, though the Tsuchinoko probably won’t be your first catch. Keep placing traps, then crawl over and pick them up repeatedly until you finally trap the creature. Doing so will earn you the “Believe It Or Not” achievement or trophy.
