Crimson Desert lets you collect numerous upgradeable weapons and items. To fully enhance their power, you need a special, rare material called Aeserion’s Scales. These scales are essential for upgrading gear all the way to Refinement Level 10, which maximizes their stats.
However, you can’t find Aeserion’s Scales just anywhere. They only appear in a specific location, and you’ll need to travel to an island off the southwestern coast of Delesyia, directly south of Three Brothers’ Cliff, to find them.
Before heading out, make sure to bring a Kuku Pot with you, which you can craft at Kilnden Shrine by talking to Grimnir. To craft a Kuku Pot, gather five Iron Ore and five Timber.
On the island, you will discover the Serpent Shrine, where Aeserion’s Scales are abundant. Before reaching the island, you will encounter Primus the Ancient, a powerful boss that quickly flees after a few hits. This boss is part of the Shackled God quest, which begins after you meet Aeserion.
You will also see a large group of soldiers firing at a giant serpent in the distance. When you approach, that serpent, Aeserion itself, will speak to you.
To farm Aeserion’s Scales effectively, follow its movements as it slithers around the shrine. You’ll find about 35 scales scattered throughout the area, including spots higher up in the ruins. A single run around this zone should give you enough scales to upgrade multiple weapons and armor pieces.
When you finish listening to Aeserion’s story, you can jump down and start harvesting the large white scales lying on the ground in the ruins. Unlike other resources, these scales are not easy to collect. You need to use Axiom Force to connect to each scale and then select the “Seal” option to put them into your Kuku Pot.
To farm these scales quickly, track the path Aeserion takes as it moves through the shrine. You should find several scales, at least 35, spread across the area, including in some of the higher parts of the ruins. One good run through the site will provide plenty of scales, enough to upgrade many pieces of gear multiple times.
Once collected, you can withdraw the scales from your Kuku Pot by selecting “Take Out,” so you can carry and use them for upgrades. Each scale can be used to upgrade one piece of gear to Refinement Level 10, but you will also need an Abyss Artifact to complete the upgrade.
