Recently, the changes to character balances in Marvel Rivals have been quite significant, especially with major system adjustments introduced at the start of Season 7. For the mid-season update in Season 7.5, most heroes received fewer buffs and nerfs compared to previous patches, even affecting Team-Up abilities that boost character teamwork. However, these changes are quite detailed and have a big impact, drastically changing how certain heroes perform in battles.
Overall, the Season 7.5 update is similar to emergency balance patches from earlier seasons. These updates usually happen when a new character becomes too overpowered or “OP,” prompting quick fixes. Luckily, White Fox from Season 7 didn’t need a major overhaul, but Black Cat might need adjustments when Season 7.5 hits.
Every Season 7.5 Character Nerf
One of the biggest nerfs in Season 7.5 was to the “Chain-CC Protection” system. This system activates when a hero is hit with six crowd control (CC) effects within seven seconds or is under CC effects for a total of 5.5 seconds. When triggered, it clears all CC effects and gives heroes 30% Tenacity for three seconds.
Crowd control—or CC—refers to abilities that stun or impair opponents. Examples include Luna Snow’s freeze, Mantis’ sleep mist, or Peni Parker’s Cyber Snare.
Additional CC effects now increase hero Tenacity, making it easier to shake off stuns and impairments. This nerfs characters who rely heavily on CC skills for their setup, like Elsa Bloodstone, whose ultimate ability had multiple CC effects that now do less. While the CC Protection system has a cooldown and doesn’t impact cinematic stuns, it’s a significant change for heroes that depend on CC for their tactics. Some characters also received direct nerfs to their abilities, such as:
| Hero | Role | Nerfs |
|---|---|---|
| Peni Parker | Vanguard | Reduced base health from 700 to 650 |
| Deadpool | Vanguard | Reduced damage and bonus health from Ultimate, lowered attack speed bonuses from his abilities |
| Elsa Bloodstone | Duelist | Increased cooldowns on abilities, reduced damage from her Pellet attacks |
| Winter Soldier | Duelist | Removed grounded effects on enemies, increased ability cooldowns, damaged projectiles, and damage thresholds |
| Cloak & Dagger | Strategist | Shortened the duration of Ultimate, “Eternal Bond” |
| Jeff the Land Shark | Strategist | Shorter damage falloff on his splash attack |
| Others like Ultron, Luna Snow, Adam Warlock, and more also received buffs, making their abilities more effective. Most notably, Ultron’s ultimate was completely revamped, making it much more powerful and versatile. |
Though Deadpool and Winter Soldier took the most hits, Elsa Bloodstone also saw notable reductions. Some heroes got buffs to counterbalance their nerfs, but overall, these changes mainly target abilities that become particularly dangerous after CC effects. Fortunately, the overall number of nerfs isn’t as large as previous patches, which seems intentional to focus on new content.
Characters Gaining New Powers
Surprisingly, Season 7.5 features more buffs than you might expect. Several characters have had abilities tweaked or completely revamped, giving them new tools to be more effective. This introduces more strategic options and better balance among heroes, especially when combined with the updates from earlier in Season 7.
For example, heroes like Emma Frost, Peni Parker, Human Torch, Winter Soldier, and Ultron received significant buffs, making their kits more powerful and versatile. Ultron, in particular, is the clear standout — his ultimate now covers a larger area and deals more damage, making him a top option for players.
Changes to Team-Ups
There aren’t many changes to Team-Ups in Season 7.5, and no Team-Ups are disappearing as they did in past patches. One new addition is Black Cat, serving as the team’s anchor and boosting the abilities of Captain America and White Fox. When used together, these three heroes increase damage, defense, and healing capabilities:
- Black Cat’s “Lucky Loan” Team-Up gives Captain America the “Vibranium Bastion” ability, enhancing shield deflection and projectile reflection.
- White Fox gains “Nine-Tailed Aura,” improving her projectiles’ tracking for better healing and damage.
Another Team-Up, “Guardian of the Deep,” involving Venom, Jeff the Land Shark, and Hela, saw nerfs aimed at reducing their healing and damage output, balancing their synergy. In the future, Season 8 will likely see more adjustments to Team-Ups, adding new links and removing some older ones to keep the gameplay fresh.
Final Thoughts
While the update might seem heavy on nerfs, there are actually a lot of positive changes as well. Many heroes received new abilities or improvements, and the overall variety of character tools has increased, providing more ways to play. These tweaks help create a more balanced and strategic environment, making Season 7.5 an interesting step forward for Marvel Rivals.
