Pathologic 3 focuses heavily on fixing past mistakes, especially once you gain the power to time travel. Early on, you’re faced with important choices, such as whether to save Rubin from being killed by a mob on Day 3.
Rubin, the last person to see Simon Kain alive, is also suspected of being involved in Kain’s death. If you choose not to stop the bandits on Day 3, you’ll lose a vital lead for your main mission in the town.
How to Save Rubin on Day 3
Rubin is located in the Warehouses district on Day 3, which is full of chaos due to a riot. This makes it tricky to navigate the area. It’s common to encounter this district early in the game, so knowing how to survive here is crucial.
Key survival tips:
- Rioters won’t talk; they will attack on sight.
- You can threaten them by aiming your gun at them. However, shooting isn’t recommended because bullets are rare and your ally Daniil will suffer.
- To threaten, fire a shot in the air. Just make sure your gun is loaded—an empty gun won’t scare them, and they’ll keep attacking.
- Only threaten the rioters when you need to pass close by. Many can be avoided by running around them.
- If you have plenty of health items, boosting your Mania (a mental state) can help you escape from rioters faster.

Dealing with bandits:
- Head to the old boiler room at the bottom of the district; use your map or Concentration Mode to locate it.
- Outside, you’ll find two bandits standing guard (use your map or Concentration Mode for specific directions).
- Approach them, and dialogue will follow.
- The bandits won’t fall for threats forever. They’ll eventually stop attacking, but only temporarily.
- To progress, you’ll need to eliminate one of them: a headshot will do the trick to kill one. The remaining bandit will surrender afterward.
Once you’ve dealt with the bandits, you can interact with the door to Rubin’s location. However, he won’t let you in right away—he’ll tell you to come back another day.
