Nod-Krai is a semi-independent area of Schneznaya in Genshin Impact. We’re focusing on building many characters from these new and upcoming regions, using boss materials available from the earliest islands—whether for the main storyline or optional bosses, especially if you’ve pulled strong characters.
The Radiant Moongecko was introduced in version 6.4 of Genshin Impact. It serves as a source for ascension materials needed to build Varka, the Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius. Here’s how to prepare for and defeat the Radiant Moongecko.
Radiant Moongecko Overview
[Image showing the Radiant Moongecko’s location]
You can find the Radiant Moongecko east of Wavechaser Plain, just south of Favonius Keep, which makes sense given its introduction in version 6.4 alongside the Nod-Krai region update. The quickest way to reach it is by warping to the waypoint south of Amsvartnir. From there, head to the series of metal platforms that move up and down along the cliff edge.
Early on, you’ll notice a Lunoculous near a cave opening to the southwest of the waypoint, which might lure you inside. Inside the cave is a locked chest and an NPC named Vacarao. Talking to Vacarao starts a short quest about guiding a creature out of a cage using different energies. If you’re here for the boss fight, go to the bottom floor of the cave and enter the southwest opening to find the Radiant Moongecko. Alternatively, you can approach from the waterfall area to the northeast of the Wavechaser Plain Statue of the New Moon, where another waypoint is located inside, making it easier to return here.

How To Defeat the Radiant Moongecko
[Image of the boss in action]
The boss is heavily armored with multiple shields, with a total of eight shield segments shown at the top of the screen. During the fight, it lifts and ignites its tail using Geo power, causing pillars to emerge from the ground. When the shields are down, aim for the core to break them—each time you deplete a full shield, damage is done to its HP. Recycling multiple Geo attacks is effective, especially those that trigger Lunar-Crystalize reactions, particularly when combined with Hydro damage from characters who utilize the Moon Wheel from Nod-Krai. These reactions help weaken its shields quickly.
Regular Geo damage, claymores, and plunging attacks are effective because they can break through the boss’s sturdy shield structures easily. Remember, the boss can trap characters in the Radiant Cocoon, which reduces their ability to deal critical hits, heal, and increases damage taken. To counter this, fully heal your characters to remove the cocoon effect.
Best Team Compositions for the Radiant Moongecko
| Lunar-Crystalize Team | Claymore & Reaction Team |
|---|---|
| Zibai (Geo), Columbina/Aino (Hydro), Xilonen (Geo), Illuga (Geo) | Varka (Anemo), Venti (Anemo), Durin/Diluc (Pyro), Bennett (Pyro) |
Choosing the right team depends on your damage preference. To leverage Lunar-Crystalize, use Geo characters like Zibai and Illuga along with Columbina or Aino (Hydro) to trigger reactions during the fight. Meanwhile, if you prefer raw elemental damage, a team with Varka, Venti, Durin or Diluc, and Bennett offers great synergy, especially since Varka’s double claymores deal significant damage. Venti and Durin or Diluc work well together, with Bennett providing healing support.
Additional Tips
- Use Geo, Lunar-Crystalize, and claymores to break down its shields efficiently.
- Watch out for the Radiant Cocoon to avoid being trapped, and heal fully to remove the effect.
- Incorporate F2P Geo characters like Noelle, Gorou, or Yun Jin for a budget-friendly team; Bennett is also helpful, but note his healing caps at 70%.
Honorable Mentions for the Fight
- Navia: Offers strong Geo damage with her claymore and can help break defenses quickly.
- Zhongli: Keeps applying Geo from a safe distance using his pillars.
- Xianyun: An excellent Anemo option if focusing on plunge damage and avoiding Lunar-Crystalize reactions.
Avoid using characters that don’t effectively trigger Geo reactions or lack suitable shields, as the fight relies heavily on breaking its layered defenses and managing the Radiant Cocoon effect.
