Anointing is an impactful feature in Path of Exile 2. It allows players to gain the effects of any Notable Passive Skill, even if it’s not connected in the Passive Skill Tree. While not a must-have, certain Anoints can significantly enhance your build, improving damage, defenses, or utility.
For example, the Anointed Passive called Frazzled provides Mana Regeneration and boosts the Shock effect, making it beneficial for a Stormweaver character. In this version of the game, unlike the original Path of Exile, only Amulets and Waystones can be Anointed. Below, we’ll explain how to Anoint your gear, acquire Distilled Emotions, and highlight some of the top Anoints available.
Currently, Path of Exile 2 is in Early Access, and Anoints may change as the game evolves.
How To Find Distilled Emotions?
Distilled Emotion is a new type of currency introduced in Path of Exile 2. It effectively combines the traits of Blight Oils and Delirium Orbs from the original game. There are ten varieties of Distilled Emotions available in-game.
Here are some methods to obtain Distilled Emotions:
Mechanic | How to Get |
---|---|
Delirium Maps |
The main way to gain Distilled Emotions is by completing Maps or Waystones with the Delirium mechanic, indicated by a white icon. In these Maps, you will see Delirium Fog surrounding the area, alongside a progress bar. Your goal is to defeat as many monsters as possible before the Delirium Fog fades. Once you’ve done that, you will receive various rewards, including random Distilled Emotions. |
Currency Exchange or Trade Website |
A simpler option for acquiring Distilled Emotions is through the Currency Exchange or the Trade Website. |
Reforging Bench |
You can also use the Reforging Bench to upgrade your Distilled Emotions. Combine three Distilled Emotions of the same type to receive a higher tier one. This method is particularly useful in Solo Self Found (SSF) mode if you can’t find the ones you need. |
Simulacrum |
Completing waves in the Simulacrum can reward you with Distilled Emotions, but this activity is best suited for advanced players with strong builds. |
When farming for Distilled Emotions, it’s beneficial to have a fully specialized Delirium Tree, suitable Precursor Tablets, and Tier 15 Waystones.
How To Anoint?

Anointing in Path of Exile 2 is a straightforward process similar to the original game. You can Anoint two types of items: Waystones and Amulets. Here’s how to Anoint each of them:
Amulets

To anoint an amulet, right-click (Square / X on controller) on any Distilled Emotion to open the Instilling Window. Place your Amulet in the top slot and three Distilled Emotions in the bottom slots. You can choose from various Notable Passive Skills to Anoint.
To verify the Distilled Emotions needed for a specific Anoint, access the Passive Skill Tree, hover over your target Notable Passive Skill, and press Alt (R3 on controller).
Keep in mind that Anoints are build-dependent, so it’s essential to check what your specific build requires. To change your Anoint, simply repeat the process to overwrite the existing one.
As of now, there is no method to Anoint a Corrupted or Mirrored Amulet. This functionality was available in the original Path of Exile and should be implemented in Path of Exile 2 shortly.
Waystones

You can anoint your Waystones to enhance them with Delirium effects. Depending on the Distilled Emotion you use, you can gain additional benefits such as extra monsters, improved Simulacrum Splinter drops, and more currency rewards.
To Anoint a Waystone, click on a Distilled Emotion (Square / X on controller) to open the Instilling Window. Place the Waystone inside along with the desired Distilled Emotions.
Be cautious because Anointing a Waystone makes it significantly harder. It’s advisable to refrain from doing so unless your build is well-established for late-game content.
Like Amulets, you cannot Anoint a Corrupted Waystone. Here’s a complete list of possible Map Mods acquired by Anointing Waystones:
Distilled Emotion | Delirious Effect | Effect |
---|---|---|
Distilled Despair | 20% | You may receive a 30% increased stack size of Simulacrum Splinters. |
Distilled Disgust | 18% | Find 30% more Precursor Tablets. |
Distilled Greed | 10% | Discover 8% increased rarity of items in your Maps. |
Distilled Ire | 7% | Your Maps will have 20% additional Magic Monsters. |
Distilled Suffering | 25% | Unique Monsters in your Maps gain additional modifiers. |
Distilled Paranoia | 12% | Your Maps may have 15% more Rare Monsters. |
Distilled Guilt | 9% | Your Maps will see an 8% boost in Pack Size, which increases loot drops. |
Distilled Envy | 15% | You may find 30% more Waystones. |
Distilled Fear | 22% | Rare Monsters in your Maps are 25% likely to gain additional modifiers. |
Distilled Isolation | 50% | This doesn’t grant an additional effect, but it helps if you’re sidestepping to farm 100% Delirious Maps. |
Just like Amulets, you will require three Distilled Emotions to Anoint a Waystone. For example, if you apply Greed, Despair, and Isolation, you’ll create a Delirious Waystone with an 80% efficiency that increases Simulacrum Splinter stacks by 30% and boosts item rarity by 8%.
