Chery Automobile has partnered with Nvidia to accelerate its move toward intelligent technology by jointly developing physical artificial intelligence, making it the second Chinese automaker to establish such a collaboration with the US chip company within a month.
The partnership focuses on three key areas: assisted driving, in-car AI systems, and robotics. The Chinese automaker announced that the alliance will leverage Nvidia’s Drive Hyperion autonomous driving platform to develop Level 3 and Level 4 smart vehicles specifically for the Chinese market.
Additionally, Chery plans to create a next-generation smart experience based on Nvidia Drive’s intelligent vehicle solutions, including improvements to cabin features powered by generative AI technology. The company will also utilize Nvidia’s embedded AI computing platform Jetson, along with the open robotic simulation framework Isaac Sim and the humanoid robot development platform Isaac GR00T, to explore advanced fields like embodied intelligence.
According to the company’s chairman, the core of Chery’s global strategic direction is intelligence. He emphasized that this partnership with Nvidia is a vital step toward integrating leading international technological resources and speeding up the company’s growth as a pioneering high-tech ecosystem worldwide.
Chinese automakers are increasingly venturing into the AI industry across various sectors. Last month, Zhejiang-based Geely announced a comprehensive AI alliance with Nvidia at the California-based Nvidia GTC 2026 conference.
Electric vehicle startups are also significantly boosting their investments in AI technology. Xpeng disclosed that its annual R&D budget for physical AI will exceed CNY 7 billion (roughly USD 1 billion) this year, aiming to expedite the commercialization of Robotaxis, humanoid robots, and flying cars. Meanwhile, Li Auto revealed that half of its planned CNY 12 billion (around USD 1.8 billion) R&D spending in 2026 will be dedicated to AI development.
