Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord has been awarded the title of Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media, thanks to the impressive score crafted by Winifred Phillips. The music boasts a grandiose style that beautifully captures the essence of 1980s pulp fantasy literature.
This year, Wizardry triumphed over several other prominent contenders such as Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and Star Wars Outlaws. For many seasoned gamers, the Wizardry series holds a special place in gaming history, recognized as one of the earliest RPGs to implement a party system and pioneering the dungeon crawler genre.
Beyond Wizardry, Winifred Phillips is known for her captivating compositions in various other popular games, including LittleBigPlanet 2 and 3, as well as Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation. It was this year that she finally received a Grammy for her outstanding contributions to video game music.

In May 2024, Digital Eclipse launched a complete 3D remake of the 1981 classic, retaining its original charm while introducing modern quality-of-life enhancements to facilitate access for today’s players. This is a significant upgrade, as running PC games from the 80s can often be quite challenging.
This marks the third consecutive year that the Grammy for Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media has been awarded. In 2023, Stephanie Economou and Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla received the honor, while Stephen Barton, Gordy Haab, along with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, took home the award the previous year. Bear McCreary, who composed for the God of War series, has been nominated all three years but has yet to win.
