US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he will not attend his eldest son Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding to Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson, citing commitments to stay in Washington for government business. “Although I very much want to be with my son, Don Jr., and welcome Bettina into the Trump family, circumstances related to government duties and my dedication to the United States prevent me from attending,” Trump shared on Truth Social. He emphasized the importance of remaining in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this significant time.
The wedding is scheduled for this weekend on a small island in the Bahamas, according to CNN, which cited sources familiar with the arrangements. A representative for Donald Trump Jr. did not immediately comment. Trump mentioned on Thursday that Don Jr. wished for his father to be present but explained that the event would be a small, private gathering. Trump also noted that his busy schedule, including ongoing talks concerning Iran, would prevent him from attending. The U.S. is currently engaged in diplomatic negotiations mediated by Pakistan to end relations with Iran, a conflict that has impacted the global economy since negotiations began on February 28.
Donald Trump Jr. has been engaged twice; his first marriage to Vanessa, a former model and actress, lasted 12 years and produced five children before Vanessa filed for divorce in 2018. His second engagement was to Kimberly Guilfoyle, a television personality, but they separated in 2024.
