Romanian authorities are actively investigating an explosion at a residential apartment building in Galați, following a drone strike near the Ukraine border. The incident was captured in images by Reuters, showing emergency personnel at the scene amidst the aftermath.
Dmitry Medvedev, deputy head of Russia’s Security Council, issued a stern warning to European nations on Friday, asserting that drones will continue to infiltrate their airspace, disrupting peace and security. Medvedev’s remarks followed NATO’s accusations of Moscow’s reckless actions and promises to defend all allied territories after Romania reported a Russian drone crashing into an apartment complex during a Ukrainian attack.
While the exact origin of the drone remains under investigation, Medvedev cautioned European leaders not to feign outrage, emphasizing that they are actively participating in the conflict with Russia. “Prepare yourselves: this will keep happening,” he stated. “There is an ongoing war, and citizens of EU countries, like those in the belligerent nations, won’t be able to enjoy peaceful sleep.”
He further pointed out that such incidents are more likely where drone manufacturing for Ukraine exists, noting that European drones, along with their parts and other weaponry, are used in daily attacks on Russia. These actions have resulted in civilian casualties and damage to residential buildings.
Earlier Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin was informed of the Romanian drone incident. The Russian Foreign Ministry indicated that Moscow plans to respond swiftly to Romania’s decision to close the Russian consulate in Constanța, signaling escalating diplomatic tensions.
