New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani commemorated Eid ul Adha with a message emphasizing solidarity and affordability, capturing attention by wearing an Arsenal-themed outfit during a Muslim holiday event. In a social media post, Mamdani described Eid ul Adha as a reminder that sacrifice isn’t a burden but a chance to see oneself as part of something greater—an opportunity to extend help to those in need.
He expressed pride in being New York City’s first Muslim mayor, highlighting his commitment to lead through unity. “Together, we’re working to ensure every New Yorker can afford groceries, housing, and childcare,” Mamdani stated. He concluded with “Happy Eid, New York,” emphasizing collective strength.
His outfit—a blue and black kurta-style ensemble featuring red sleeve stripes and the “Emirates Fly Better” slogan—drew extra notice. Mamdani, a known Arsenal supporter, wore it shortly after the club won the English Premier League title, their first in 22 years, following a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace and a draw by second-place Manchester City. Arsenal is also preparing to face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League final in Budapest on May 30, aiming for a historic double.
