A firecracker storage facility in southern India caught fire on Tuesday, resulting in at least eight fatalities—the second such incident in just three days. Nakul Rajendra Deshmukh, police chief of Thrissur district in Kerala, stated that rescue efforts have concluded following the tragic blaze, which injured 15 individuals, including two in critical condition. Authorities are still working to determine the exact cause of the fire. Local reports indicate the fire erupted during preparations for a Hindu festival.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the loss of lives via social media, offering his deepest condolences to the families impacted. On Sunday, a similar fire at a firecracker factory in Tamil Nadu claimed 20 lives. Such industrial accidents are frequently seen across India, often caused by lapses in safety protocols and inadequate enforcement. Last month, a fire at a fireworks factory in western India resulted in 17 deaths.
