The Roborock Saros Z70 is the newest addition to Roborock’s lineup, boasting not only strong vacuuming and mopping capabilities but also a unique robotic arm. This feature enables it to pick up items from your floor, enhancing its overall cleaning effectiveness. However, our review of the Saros Z70 revealed that it didn’t entirely live up to expectations. On the other hand, the Roborock Saros 10R shares many features with the Z70 without the hefty price or the robotic arm.

So, which robot vacuum is the better choice for your home: the Roborock Saros Z70 or the Saros 10R? Is the added functionality of the robotic arm worth the additional investment, or can you save a few hundred dollars by choosing the Saros 10R? Let’s dive deeper into these two models to help you make a more informed decision.

Pricing and Design

The Roborock Saros Z70 carries a steep price tag of $2,600, though it’s often available at a discounted rate. It features a standard robot vacuum size with a rectangular base and circular body, adorned with several premium design elements. The standout feature is the robotic arm, which is typically hidden away until needed.

Meanwhile, the Saros 10R resembles the Z70 closely but lacks some of the premium design accents. It’s still an attractive option and comes at a significantly lower price of $1,600, making it one of the more expensive models on the market yet still easier on the wallet than its counterpart.

Vacuuming Performance

When it comes to vacuuming performance, the Z70 slightly edges out with a suction power of 22,000 Pa versus the 10R’s 20,000 Pa. Both models feature side brushes for tackling corners, can detach mopping pads while vacuuming carpets, and utilize the same Starsight Autonomous System 2.0 for efficient navigation. Our tests showed that either model does a commendable job with everyday messes, leaving the floor looking freshly cleaned.

Obstacle avoidance capabilities were strong in both devices, with the ability to lift the chassis over different surfaces further highlighting their versatility. Both models also feature an anti-tangle system, effectively handling hair and fibers without requiring manual cleanup.

In summary, both vacuums perform exceptionally well. While the Z70 boasts slightly higher suction, real-life testing indicated they are almost equally effective.

Mopping Capabilities

The mopping functionality is similarly effective between these two robots. Both units are equipped with dual spinning mops, one of which can swivel to clean areas near baseboards. They automatically lift their mops when transitioning to carpet and perform a self-cleaning cycle that includes a hot water rinse, helping to prevent odors associated with lesser models.

Testing confirmed that both robots excel at tackling daily spills and stains while retaining the ability to leave their mops behind during vacuum sessions.

Extra Features

Both the Saros Z70 and 10R share a suite of smart features, such as:

  • Intelligent dirt detection
  • Auto detergent dispensing
  • Auto tank refilling
  • Auto dust emptying
  • Auto brush lifting
  • Adaptive route algorithm
  • App support
  • Voice assistant compatibility

The major differentiator is the robotic arm on the Z70. However, based on our evaluation, it requires further refinement. It often struggles to detect pick-up opportunities on carpets and can only operate efficiently on hard surfaces. Additionally, its gripping capabilities are limited, and it may take several attempts to successfully move an object to its intended location. While it shows promise, it still needs further development to be practical.

Winner: Tie

Conclusion

Despite introducing the robotic arm feature, the Roborock Saros Z70 may not be the ideal option for most consumers. Instead, the Saros 10R offers nearly all the same functionalities—minus the arm—at a more affordable price. It’s capable of delivering an excellent cleaning experience and stands out as one of the top robot vacuums available. Don’t forget to compare the Saros 10R with the Saros 10, as each model approaches cleaning in distinct ways.
