Will Baldur’s Gate 3 be on Xbox?

Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the year’s most anticipated role-playing games, and fans are keen to find out if they will be able to play it on their Xbox systems.

The game, based on the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop format, has been in early access on PC since October 2020, with a full release date of August 3, 2023. But how about Xbox users? Will they be able to participate in the Forgotten Realms adventure?

Yes, but not anytime soon, is the simple response.

According to Larian Studios, the makers of Baldur’s Gate 3, they have been working on an Xbox version of the game for some time, but they have run into some technical difficulties that have caused it to be postponed.

The split-screen co-op function, which works great on Xbox Series X but not on Xbox Series S, is one of the major difficulties. Larian cannot simply remove the split-screen option from the Series S edition since Microsoft demands that both versions of the game have the same functionality.

“Our objective is absolutely to get it ready for this year, but we have come into some technical challenges – mainly with split-screen co-op,” a spokesperson for Larian Studios revealed in a Reddit post. We’re still working on an Xbox version of BG3, but we’re not ready to reveal it yet.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox Release Date

  • 2024.

This implies that Xbox users will have to wait until Larian overcomes these obstacles and delivers a seamless and pleasant experience on both the Series X and Series S consoles. The studio has not specified a release date or window for the Xbox version, however, it is possible that it may be some time in 2024.

In terms of other systems, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been announced for the PlayStation 5 and will be released on September 6, 2023. However, there are no plans to release the game on the PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch since Larian feels these systems are insufficiently powerful to run the game without sacrificing its quality and performance.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a big and ambitious game that seeks to provide a true and immersive version of the Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition rules. The game has a deep and branching plot, a diverse and configurable group of companions, a turn-based combat system, and an online multiplayer option for up to four players. In addition, the game has outstanding visuals, animations, and over 200 hours of theatrical sequences.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is understandably difficult to convert to multiple platforms due to its high level of realism and intricacy. Larian Studios has indicated that they aim to ensure that every player, regardless of device, can experience the game to the fullest. As a result, rather of rushing out an inferior product, they are taking their time to polish and optimize the game for each platform.

So, if you’re an Xbox fan who wants to play Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll have to wait for Larian to provide further information regarding the Xbox version.
