Reuniting Kliff with his Greymane allies is your main goal at the start of your journey in Crimson Desert. But you can also make some money along the way. While there are quick ways to earn silver, gold bars are special because they can be more than just a trading item.
We’ll show you where to find an early, renewable source of gold bars and teach you how to build a stable financial future by investing your gold bars at the bank.
Updated May 9, 2026, by Andrew Scariati: The respawning gold bar in Lioncrest Manor was an unintended glitch that was fixed by Pearl Abyss. Although one method is no longer available, we’ve added another way to get Gold Bars through crafting.
Where to Find Gold Bars
Gold Bars are very rare items hidden around Pywel, but there are two simple ways to get some early in Crimson Desert:
- Steal one from the fireplace in Lioncrest Manor (guaranteed).
- Steal them from nobles wandering around Hernand (random chance).
Before you can steal these, you need a mask.
Masks are required for any crime, especially stealing. If you’re caught and jailed, your masks will be taken away, but the gold bar you stole stays with you.
How to Get a Mask
You have three main options to acquire a mask:
- Earn one through quests.
- Buy one from Grimrak, the Back Alley Vendor in Hernand, for ten copper.
- Loot masks from bandits across Pywel.
The easiest way is to buy one from Grimrak, located southeast of the main church in Hernand. The church is on the far east side of Hernand, near the river. Once you have a mask, head to Lioncrest Manor.
Where to Steal Gold Bars
Lioncrest Manor is northwest of Hernand’s main square and offers two early ways to find gold bars, but the respawning method has been fixed, so it is now a one-time loot:
You can reach Lioncrest Manor by climbing the walls or gliding onto the roof from nearby cliffs, then entering through a window. Inside, find the fireplace in the main room downstairs, put on your mask, and hold LB or L1 next to the fireplace. You’ll see a ‘steal’ option—choose it to get a hidden gold bar.
Note: Lioncrest Manor seems to be either a unique case or affected by a bug, as you’ll always be caught when stealing there. You’ll be fined and your mask taken, but you keep the gold bar, so you can pay the fine and buy another mask easily.
If you want more gold bars over time, put on your mask and try stealing from nobles around Lioncrest Manor or elsewhere. Approach a noble, hold L1/LB to see the ‘steal’ option, and then run away quickly once you’ve stolen from them to avoid being caught.
How to Craft Gold Bars
You can craft Gold Bars by farming certain items like Golden Apples and Gold Ore. Here’s how:
- Mine Gold Ore from nodes across Pywel.
- Gather Golden Apples from Golden Apple Hedgehogs at specific locations.
- Go to any Witch vendor and choose Craft Abyss Gear.
- In the Special Items tab, select the bottom Gold Bar recipe, which uses Gold Ore and Golden Apples.
Once you have Gold Bars, invest them at banks to grow your wealth.
How to Invest Your Gold Bars
Never sell gold bars to merchants—they’ll only give you about 190 silver. Instead, go to the Hernand Bank in the town center. Talk to the banker named Grover. You’ll have two options:
- Open a strongbox for 100 silver.
- Exchange your Gold Bar for 500 silver.
Opening a strongbox lets you invest in three risk options:
| Risk Type | Return Range |
|---|---|
| Low | Zero to 2% |
| Medium | -15% to +20% |
| High | -50% to +55% |
You can guarantee profits by saving your game just before your investment’s return refreshes. Here’s how:
- Check the bank for the ‘next refresh time’ (returns happen every three days).
- Save your game right before it resets.
- Invest your gold in the ‘High Risk’ option.
- Wait until the refresh time passes, then check your previous investments to see the results.
- If successful, celebrate; if not, reload your save and try again.
- You can adjust your investment or withdraw your funds to protect your gains.
This method ensures you get the most out of your rare gold bars.
Quick tip: To pass the time faster, rest at a bed or bonfire, which advances time by 12 hours. You must wait ten in-game hours between rests.
