Crafted by Rykard to combat the peril of predetermined death, the Blasphemous Claw in Elden Ring serves as a vital tool for countering Malekith’s attacks. With its engravings echoing the marks of death, this item is the only means capable of halting Malekith momentarily.
This guide will walk you through the process of acquiring the Blasphemous Claw and demonstrate how to use it effectively to deflect Malekith’s strikes, allowing you to stun him in the process.
Where to Find the Blasphemous Claw
You can obtain the Blasphemous Claw by defeating Recusant Bernahl, located in Crumbling Farum Azula.
However, you’ll need to follow certain steps to summon him as a red phantom in Farum Azula.
First, locate Knight Bernahl at the Warmaster Shack in the Stormhill region of Limgrave. Speak to him about joining Volcano Manor. Afterward, he will head to Volcano Manor.
Once you’ve joined the Volcano Manor, he will transform into Recusant Bernahl. Continue through the manor and defeat Rykard, the Lord of Blasphemy. Proceed with your quest until you finish Leyndell, which will then allow you access to the Mountaintop of the Giants.
After taking down the Fire Giant, burn the Erdtree. This will automatically transport you to Crumbling Farum Azula. Defeat the Godskin Duo boss, and from there, head to the Beside the Great Bridge Site of Grace.
Make your way to the Great Bridge, then take the left path instead of the right. Continue along this route and descend using the ladder to find a small room containing an Old Lord’s Talisman hidden in a treasure chest.
As you navigate toward the room, you’ll encounter an invasion from Recusant Bernahl’s phantom. He utilizes Golden Vow to enhance his attacks and wields a particularly powerful weapon. Maintain your distance and consider using magic to attack him safely. Upon defeating him, Recusant Bernahl will drop the Blasphemous Claw along with his complete set of gear and some Bell Bearings.
Using the Blasphemous Claw in Elden Ring
The Blasphemous Claw has a singular purpose: to intercept Malekith the Black Blade’s assaults.
However, timing this maneuver is crucial. Once Malekith shifts into his true form, maintain your distance and evade his projectile strikes, which typically occur in a series of four.
After the fourth projectile, you will see his blade emit a golden glow (a soft yellow). This is your signal. Equip the Blasphemous Claw and press the item button (Square/X) as soon as Malekith’s blade shines golden.
Upon executing the action correctly, he will home in on your location, causing him to stagger. If you time the Claw’s activation right, you’ll find yourself in a seamless defensive position.
Your character will then deflect Malekith’s attack, creating an opportunity to strike back. This moment gives you a great chance to land some hits on Malekith, especially if you’re wielding the Blasphemous Blade.
