Tales of Graces f Remastered offers an impressive selection of free downloadable content (DLC). This includes almost everything that was available on the PS3 and Wii, apart from a few items restricted by copyright. Additionally, some items are exclusive to the Digital Deluxe Edition. You can obtain all DLC from the same spot in the game, but whether that’s advisable is another matter.
This guide will detail each type of DLC so that you can decide if you want to acquire them early. We’ll provide descriptions and share our opinions, including some DLC that is definitely worth waiting on.
Where to Access Tales of Graces F Remastered’s DLCs
Finding the DLC menu might not be immediately obvious. In your inventory menu, navigate to the tab on the far right, identifiable by a Wi-Fi-like signal icon. This tab is dedicated to DLC options.
Here, you’ll find a massive array of choices—around 90 for the standard edition, with even more in the Digital Deluxe Edition. It can definitely feel overwhelming, so take your time and check out the details for each category below.
Costumes and Attachments
Like many titles in the Tales series, Tales of Graces f offers numerous unlockable costumes for each character. Many costumes are available through standard gameplay, but you can also obtain others through DLC, with some coming with titles that grant new abilities.
DLC costumes fall into two categories: Quick-Costume Sets, which unlock costumes and corresponding titles earlier than they would typically become available, and character-specific sets that are exclusive to DLC.
In addition to costumes, there are 15 cosmetic attachments. These can be worn alongside costumes instead of replacing them entirely.
Should you unlock all these items right away? We believe it’s a good idea. While the costume titles can offer an early advantage, they’re not game-breaking, so you won’t spoil your experience.
Grade Shop Content
This feature is a bit unique, as you can toggle these DLCs on when you first launch the game—a change from previous versions of Tales of Graces f which required completing the game first to access the Grade Shop.
Keep in mind that not everything from the Grade Shop is included here—only nine options are available. Once you make your choices, you can disable them but can’t enable missed options.
Should you choose all these options from the start? We would advise against it, except maybe for the Double EXP and Expand Inventory options. Doubling your experience can help minimize grinding, while the inventory expansion is merely a slight convenience.
Magic Carta
Magic Carta are collectible cards scattered throughout the Tales of Graces f world. They’re enjoyable collectibles featuring quotes from characters across the franchise, but their functionality is limited.
You’ll encounter a character in a mid-game town who will challenge you in card matches. The game involves selecting cards tied to attributes faster than your rival. Familiarity with other Tales games can be advantageous.
Additionally, another character rewards you with items after reaching specific collection milestones, totaling 90 cards available.
The Magic Carta DLC consists of nine sets, with each containing ten cards. You can find them by exploring, though it may require re-entering areas several times for them to appear.
Should you unlock these from the beginning? That entirely depends on whether you enjoy seeking out collectibles. Enjoyment from this can be subjective, so it’s hard to give a definitive answer.
Skits
Skit scenes often serve as the emotional heart of the Tales series, offering a wealth of character interactions that range from enlightening to humorous. These interactions delve deeper into character personalities than the main storyline typically allows.
The inclusion of 20 DLC skits is significant, especially since some weren’t available outside Japan until this release.
Should you unlock these at the start? Absolutely not. The skits are intended for your full party, and watching them prematurely can reveal major plot points. Save them for closer to the end of the story.
Gald
You can unlock four DLC options for 300,000 Gald, the in-game currency. Acquiring even one of these can drastically change the game’s economy. Having all four is quite a benefit!
You may find yourself strapped for cash only near the end of the game when a specific NPC offers unique, costly titles for each character.
Should you grab these from the start? Only if you’re fine with having overwhelming purchasing power, which might eliminate some of the game’s challenges for different players.
Books, Food, and Materials
Some DLC doesn’t neatly fit into the other categories, so we’ll cover it here. You can unlock powerful tomes for the Eleth Mixer, which will enhance various effects that are useful for progression.
Additionally, you’ll gain access to various meals that can grant HP recovery during battles and outside of them, although you can only consume them periodically when exploring. You’ll be cooking a lot, so the significance is relatively minor.
Lastly, you can obtain cute collectible dolls for a side quest and some crafting items that may not be useful to you for a while.
Should you unlock these early? It doesn’t make much of a difference, so feel free to grab them.
Digital Deluxe Exclusives
There are some DLCs available exclusively for those who purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition. There’s even one that’s a pre-order bonus.
Most items offer small benefits, like healing item bundles that aren’t essential unless you skip using Gald DLCs. Stat-boost items seem valuable early on, but as you progress, the effects will become less noticeable.
One standout DLC is the Battle BGM Set, allowing you to change the battle theme to tracks from previous Tales games, including newer ones like Tales of Arise.
To change the music, go to the Options menu and navigate down to the appropriate choice. From there, you can select your desired battle theme.
