After completing the prologue of Subnautica 2 and entering the open waters without assistance, your first task is to find essential items for survival. As you become more familiar with the environment, you’ll start gathering various resources to advance the story.
Most of these resources come in the form of different ores, with Quartz being one of the early needs. You need Quartz to craft glass items and for projects involving electricity, which is a significant part of the game. Fortunately, collecting Quartz becomes easier once you know where to look.
Subnautica 2 is still in Early Access, so all information here might change over time.
How to Get Quartz
Unlike Titanium, which is the first crucial resource you’ll find throughout the map, Quartz isn’t scattered everywhere. Early in the game, you’ll need to visit certain structures to find it. These structures are the giant coral shells located on the riverbed. Most have entrances large enough to enter easily. Inside, observe the roof and walls closely for tooth-like rocks protruding from the shell. Approaching these rocks will allow you to harvest Quartz. If a Quartz node is small, you’ll need to use a Survival Multitool to extract it.
Best Locations to Farm Quartz
In the late game, your Quartz requirements increase significantly. For this, you’ll need a Sonic Resonator. Once equipped, here are some top spots to gather Quartz based on your location on the map.
| Location | Image | Directions from the Lifepod | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 260 meters north at about 20 meters deep | Near an important main story site. Look for Quartz nodes on top of rock formations in this area. | |
| 2 | ![]() |
420 meters towards 330 degrees at around 40 meters depth | Follow the riverbed downhill, where Quartz nodes are aligned along the cliff face. |
| 3 | ![]() |
415 meters northeast at about 70 meters deep | Near a wreckage site with Quartz nodes nearby. |
| 4 | ![]() |
1,434 meters east at approximately 286 meters depth | In the Axum biome, ideal for farming Quartz once you have upgraded your tank and Tadpole sub. Be cautious near the biome boundary to avoid dangerous enemies. |
When exploring these locations, remember to upgrade your equipment as needed, especially your tank and submersible, to reach the deeper areas where Quartz is found. Be mindful of boundaries and possible hazards while mining near the edges of the current game content.
