After the initial excitement of being fully submerged in Subnautica 2, you’ll quickly see that much of your gameplay involves exploring to gather resources needed for advancing the story. As you progress, these resources will become harder to find because you’ll need to go farther from your starting point.
Sulfur is a prime example of such a resource. You’ll need it from early on through to the later stages of the game. Since it’s not available near your spawn point, you’ll have to travel to specific locations to collect it. Luckily, you don’t need large quantities, so a single trip to the right spot can provide enough sulfur for a long time.
Note: Subnautica 2 is still in Early Access, so the game world and resource locations may change in future updates.
How to Get Sulfur
To find sulfur, you’ll need to progress in the main story until you cure an infection on an Angel’s Comb and gain an adaptation for high temperatures. This adaptation is necessary because sulfur appears in hot environments. Afterward, head east from your Lifepod for about 230 meters. This will take you into a biome where sulfur deposits can be found on rock branches. Most of these deposits will be small nodes, but a farming run can yield enough sulfur for your needs.
Best Locations to Farm Sulfur
If you’re looking to collect large amounts of sulfur, focus on bigger nodes that require a Sonic Resonator to break. Each large node can give you about four to five sulfur pieces. Here are some top spots:
-
457 meters east of the Lifepod at a depth of 22 meters:
Look for a rock peak reaching the surface covered with abundant sulfur deposits. Breaking these will quickly fill your inventory. -
561 meters in the 105-degree direction at 156 meters deep:
There’s an underground cave with a large open area and a peak inside. This entire underground area is rich with sulfur nodes, making it a prime spot for collection. -
1,450 meters in the 105-degree direction at 300 meters deep:
Located in the Axum biome, this area is ideal late in the game. It features numerous large sulfur nodes, perfect for high-yield farming. -
1,730 meters in the 105-degree direction at 290 meters deep:
Close to the previous location, this spot offers even more sulfur, especially near the big nodes that are accessible with a Sonic Resonator.
To maximize your harvesting, use the Sonic Resonator on the large nodes. Each one can give you four to five sulfur pieces, allowing you to stockpile efficiently for your ongoing needs.
