Sony recently introduced a new feature to the PS5 through a beta update in May 2026. Selected users reported that this update adds a social/community feature accessible via the Welcome Hub.
PlayStation YouTuber MysticRyan demonstrated the new “Community Activity” widget in a video. However, it doesn’t quite match the social capabilities of the PS4.
The widget mainly displays the most-played games in your region. When you click on “Top 10,” you’ll see the most popular titles for the current week.
Choosing “Trending Now” shows which games and modes are currently gaining popularity. For example, if players in your area are flocking to a new Fortnite or Call of Duty mode, it will appear alongside full game titles in this trending section.
Honestly, it’s unclear why Sony believes this widget holds much value. Personally, I preferred the PS4’s social features, like seeing what friends were playing. PS4 Communities is another feature that’s currently missing from the PS5.
Since the Community Activity widget is still in its beta phase, if Sony decides to fully roll it out, it might take a few more months before it becomes available to everyone.
