Two classic RPGs that debuted on the PlayStation Portable are officially heading to current-generation consoles, with significant upgrades and a tentative release window.
NIS America announced that both The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure will arrive later this year for Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5. While an exact release date hasn’t been specified, they expect both titles to launch sometime in 2026. Pricing details are still under wraps, but NIS noted that players will have the option to purchase a physical bundle that includes both games once they are available.
These updated versions promise notable performance improvements, including support for 4K resolution. The games will feature HD texture overhauls and will support up to 120 frames per second. Players will be able to toggle between the original and remastered textures, allowing fans to relive the nostalgia or enjoy the enhanced visuals.
The Legend of Heroes series, developed by Nihon Falcom, is a long-running collection of role-playing games. Its origins trace back to the Dragon Slayer series of the 1980s, eventually evolving into its own franchise. To date, 17 titles have been released, with the latest being Trails in the Sky: First Chapter, which came out in 2025.
Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure originally launched in 2010 and 2011 for the PlayStation Portable. They have been ported to other consoles multiple times, including recent releases on PS4 and Nintendo Switch in 2022.
