Path of Exile is well-known for the extensive range of currencies available, a feature that continues in Path of Exile 2. Although the sequel has reduced some types of currency, like Portal Scrolls, there’s still a significant variety to manage, each with unique functions.
If you’re looking to exchange your currency in Path of Exile 2, you’re in the right spot. This guide will walk you through the steps to utilize the Currency Exchange, which allows you to trade up to more valuable currencies.
In Path of Exile 2, trading operates a bit differently compared to the original game. Instead of having to exit the game and browse the official website for trade opportunities, you can conduct trades directly in-game. This makes the experience much more seamless and less daunting.
How to Unlock the Currency Exchange
Instead of simply approaching any vendor and beginning to trade from the get-go, you need to unlock the Currency Exchange. To do so, you must complete the main campaign, which currently involves finishing the first three acts. After you accomplish this, you will advance to Cruel difficulty.
This process may change when Path of Exile 2 exits Early Access! For the time being, simply finish the initial three acts of the game.
Once you’ve made it through those acts, the Currency Exchange will be unlocked automatically. There are no additional quests needed; it activates as part of your progress. To access it, just speak with the gambling NPCs. Before unlocking this feature, these NPCs were limited to offering random gear in exchange for currency.
Here’s where you can find the Currency Exchange NPCs:
Location |
NPC Name |
---|---|
Act One (Clearfell Encampment) |
Finn |
Act Two (Ardura Caravan) |
Risu |
Act Three (Ziggurat Encampment) |
Alva |
Alva can also be placed in your Hideout, where she will continue to offer the Currency Exchange feature.
It’s crucial to remember that the Currency Exchange is not available early in the game. To obtain the currencies you desire, you’ll have to find or purchase them from vendors. This process might feel tedious, but it’s a great way to accumulate your currency stash for the Currency Exchange.
How to Use the Currency Exchange
So, how do you utilize the Currency Exchange? From the menu, you can view the currencies you want to exchange under the “I Want” tab. Since this is an exchange, you’ll also need to select items in the “I Have” tab.
You can choose various items in the “I Have” tab, but keep in mind that there are generally accepted standards for exchanges. For instance, it’s unlikely that someone will trade a rare currency for just a couple of Scrolls of Wisdom.
Right now, Exalted Orbs are the common currency players are using. When selecting the “I Have” option, you’ll notice the Market Ratio defaulting to the standard, but you can modify it as needed. It’s advisable to stick to the prevailing Market Ratio to enhance your chances of securing the currency you want.
If the ratio concept is a bit complicated, don’t fret! For example, if the ratio is 6:1 for Lesser Jeweller’s Orbs against Exalted Orbs, it means that you can exchange six Lesser Jeweller’s Orbs for one Exalted Orb.
Once you’re satisfied with the exchange, click on “Place Order”. If another player has placed a similar order in the opposite direction, your trade will be completed successfully.
Sometimes, your order might take a while to fill. You can list up to ten items for trade at once, but given the large number of players looking to trade, your orders might not linger for too long.
That’s the trading process in a nutshell! The Market Ratio can change frequently since many players are constantly looking to make trades. If a trade doesn’t appear to be worthwhile, consider holding off for a bit to see if the ratio improves.
