Welcome to the enchanting and inviting world of Palia, where you’ll find countless activities awaiting you as soon as you step in. From constructing your dream home to uncovering relics in the picturesque Elderwood area, there’s never a dull moment. However, don’t overlook the intriguing main quest that escalates your adventure—exploring the mystery behind the return of humans to this realm. As you venture through the core storyline, you will delve into various enigmatic vaults, starting with the Temple of the Waves.
Palia guides you smoothly through its main quests, ensuring you won’t accidentally skip ahead or miss crucial steps. Your journey begins when Auni hands you an ancient device and Jina prompts you to unlock the Temple of the Waves. To proceed, you will tackle an Ancient Battery Puzzle that ultimately rewards you with a glider to enhance your traveling experience.
Locating the Night Sky Temple
Pursue the Main Quest
Once you have finished the quests “Ancient Battery” and “Like a Bird,” Jina will kick off the “Echoes of the Unknown” quest, leading you to explore the Temple of the Waves. This will include a sliding fish puzzle, and solving it will automatically trigger the next chapter, “Vault of the Waves.” At this point, you will be instructed to meet Jina at the Night Sky Temple, which is situated on a hillside near the Daiya Family Farm.
Once you enter, you’ll encounter a peculiar stone device at the base of a mural. Here, you’ll learn about various bundles needed to complete the Vault of the Waves tasks and collect rewards. Keep in mind, each time you wish to contribute an item to a bundle, you must return to the Night Sky Temple; however, there’s no need for the item to occupy your inventory for it to count.
Completing the Spooky Bundle
Best Rewards with a Great Start
To complete the Spooky Bundle, you’ll need to utilize both your Fishing and Bug Catching skills. You must catch four specific creatures: a Garden Mantis, a Vampire Crab, a Mutated Angler, and a Void Ray. The rewards for this bundle are quite generous and will be beneficial for catching more elusive fish later.
Rewards:
- 100 Gold
- 10 Tuning Forks
- 1 Major Hook Time Booster
- 1 Minor Rod Health Booster
- 1 Major Rod Recovery Booster
- 1 Major Safe Zone Speed Booster
- 1 Major Safe Zone Size Booster
Where to Find a Garden Mantis
Look for the Garden Mantis, which spawns freely in Kilima Valley at any time. They can typically be found around Kilima Lake. Although they can be startled easily, they are slower-moving and can be caught with just a few smoke bombs. The best area to spot a Garden Mantis is in the wide grassy space south of Leafhopper Hills, near the broken dock.
Where to Find a Vampire Crab
Vampire Crabs are a bit harder to locate since they only appear in specific areas at certain times. You can find these distinctive red crabs in the Flooded Fortress area of Bahari Bay between 6 PM and 3 AM. They tend to be skittish, so using Sticky Smoke Bombs is advisable to ensure they don’t escape.
Where to Find a Mutated Angler
Similar to the Vampire Crab, the Mutated Angler has a limited presence in Palia. They reside in cave ponds, particularly in the Pavel Mine, The Underground, or the Temple of the Waves.
The easiest way to obtain worms is from Zeki’s store, where five worms can be bought for 50 gold. Alternatively, you can create worms using a Worm Farm, available when you reach Fishing level four. Star-quality meals yield the most worms, but just one plate of grilled fish can provide eight worms quickly.
For the best chance at catching the Mutated Angler, I suggest fishing in the Pavel Mines within Bahari Bay, using regular worms at any time of the day.
Where to Find a Void Ray
The Void Ray is the toughest fish in the Spooky Bundle to catch, being an epic rarity. Like the Mutated Angler, you’ll find the Void Ray in caves at any time, but the Pavel Mines proved to be an excellent fishing spot for me as well.
Completing the Freshwater Bundle
The Easiest Bundle to Complete
The Freshwater Bundle is arguably the simplest of all the Vault of the Waves tasks. You’ll need an Inky Dragonfly, a star-quality Trout Dinner, five HydratePro Fertilizers, and a Giant Goldfish, employing Fishing, Bug Catching, and Cooking skills.
Rewards:
- 1 portion of Bouillabaisse
- The Bouillabaisse Recipe
Where to Find an Inky Dragonfly
The Inky Dragonfly can be spotted along rivers and ponds in Bahari Bay at any time. They’re slightly darker than other dragonflies and possess pale teal wings. They are easily startled, so I found that using Sticky Smoke Bombs works best to catch them.
How to Get a Star Quality Trout Dinner
You can find the recipe for a Trout Dinner in Einar’s Cave once you’ve established level three friendship with him. This dish requires a stove, prep station, and oven to prepare.
The Rainbow Trout is the simplest trout to catch, found in Kilima’s rivers at any time, requiring no bait.
Ensure you use star-quality ingredients and check the box for star quality when cooking to achieve the desired result.
Where to Find HydratePro Fertilizer
Obtaining HydratePro Fertilizer is straightforward since it can be purchased. Zeki’s General Store offers 20 HydratePro Fertilizers for 40 gold. Bonus: Zeki will reward you with a Lucky Coin for every purchase.
Where to Find a Giant Goldfish
You can catch Giant Goldfish in ponds throughout Kilima Valley and Bahari Bay at any time. To attract these epic fish, you must use Glow Worms and exercise patience, as their rarity can be frustrating. The Mirror Pond in northern Kilima Valley has been my most successful spot for catching them.
Completing the Beach Bundle
Requires Patience and Random Drops
For the Beach Bundle, you’ll need to visit Bahari Bay Coast. You’re looking for four items: A Green Pearl, a Stripeshell Snail, a Blue Marlin, and a serving of Sushi, necessitating skills in Fishing, Cooking, Bug Catching, and Foraging.
Rewards:
Where to Find a Green Pearl
Finding a Green Pearl can be quite a challenge due to its low drop rate. Pearls can be found by opening Unopened Oysters scattered along the Bahari coastline from Beachcomber Cove to Coral Shores. Oysters yield Oyster Meat and Pearls, with only a 3% chance for a Green Pearl.
Where to Find a Stripeshell Snail
Stripeshell Snails are located along the Bahari Bay coastline between 6 PM and 3 AM. Their purple shells make them easy to identify among the common green snails. It’s advised to use smoke bombs to stun them, and Sneaky Smoke Bombs are best to avoid spooking them.
Where to Find a Blue Marlin
On the Bahari Bay coast, Blue Marlin can be caught at any time by using regular Worms. I managed to catch one while fishing off the pier near the Lighthouse, though it took several hours to succeed. Using a Rod Health Booster may help, as these fish can be quite a challenge to reel in.
How to Get Sushi
You will need to prepare a serving of Sushi for the bundle. Sushi is fairly simple to make; the dish doesn’t require star quality. The key to obtaining the recipe is that it can only be fished out of ponds using Glow Worms, which can be somewhat frustrating.
Completing the Magic Bundle
Contains the Most Challenging Catch
The final bundle for the Vault of the Waves, the Magic Bundle, can be the trickiest of all. To complete it, you will need: one portion of Fisherman’s Brew, an Enchanted Pupfish, a Shimmerfin, and a Long Nosed Unicorn Fish. Mainly focusing on Fishing skill, you’ll also require some Cooking to prepare the brew.
Rewards:
How to Get Fisherman’s Brew
The recipe for Fisherman’s Brew can be purchased from Einar for 1000 gold once you hit level five in Fishing.
Fisherman’s Brew can be consumed to increase your safe zone while fishing for eight minutes. The safe zone is indicated by green brackets and is crucial for reeling in fish.
You’ll need to gather Emerald Carpet Moss and Crystal Lake Lotus, which you can find near Kilima Lake. Afterward, cook the brew over a campfire and keep one portion for the bundle.
Where to Find an Enchanted Pupfish
The Enchanted Pupfish can be fished out at any hour in Kilima Lake. They are attracted to Glow Worms but are manageable to reel in. I had the best luck fishing near the bridges on Fisherman’s Lagoon.
Where to Find a Shimmerfin
The Shimmerfin can also be caught in Kilima Lake, using regular Worms. Being a small purple fish, they’re available to catch at any time of the day. I find Fisherman’s Lagoon the best fishing spot since it’s close to Einar’s dock.
Where to Find a Long Nosed Unicorn Fish
Finally comes the Long Nosed Unicorn Fish, notoriously challenging to catch. This was the last fish I needed for all four Vault bundles, and it proved difficult as they struggle more than most other fish when caught.
You can buy fishing attachments from Einar, which cost gold or Fishing Medals depending on the item.
Look for the Long Nosed Unicorn Fish only along the Bahari Coast between 6 AM and 6 PM, using Glow Worms. I caught mine near the Lighthouse after using a fishing attachment to boost my rod health and consuming Fisherman’s Brew.
Upon completing all the Vault of the Waves bundles, you’ll unlock the Something’s in the Water achievement and earn 60 Renown. Finishing this bundle will also release Ancient Fish into the world of Palia. These epic purple fish are essential for completing both the Kilima and Bahari Fish Collector achievements.
