LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight offers many ways to upgrade your skills and equipment. You can improve tools and gadgets at workbenches found around Gotham City or inside the Batcave. Additionally, some upgrades are unlocked using gold Skill Bricks, which you mostly earn by completing levels in the main story.
These gold Skill Brick upgrades boost Batman’s combat abilities, help gather more studs, and enhance various gameplay elements. You won’t want to overlook these upgrades. The first one is unlocked during an early tutorial. Afterward, you can access upgrades through the main menu. New tiers become available as you finish chapters, so not all upgrades are accessible from the start. Upgrades are categorized into Combat and Exploration types.
Combat & Exploration Upgrades Explanation
Which upgrades you choose really depends on your play style. If you want Batman to be as powerful as possible, focus mainly on the Combat upgrades on the left side. If you’re playing on the easier Classic difficulty, these upgrades might be less necessary, but they still help.
The right side features upgrades aimed at helping you earn trophies and achievements faster, or to buy all the Batsuits and Batcave decorations from Bat-Mite’s shop. These upgrades mainly increase the number of LEGO studs you collect, and doing so quickly.
Key upgrades to focus on early in Chapter 1:
- Hyper Combo: Boosts your maximum stud combo multiplier.
- Stud Magnet: Attracts studs from further away.
- Stealthy Studs: Allows you to take down enemies without being detected, increasing your Stud Combo Meter.
Each of these costs one gold Skill Brick, which you gain by completing levels in the main story. Most of these stud multiplier upgrades are in the final tier of the Exploration skill tree. However, you should be able to earn these before finishing Chapter 1, giving you plenty of studs to spend once you access the Batcave and Bat-Mite’s shop.
Focus on Studs First
In general, aim to increase your LEGO Stud multiplier early on. Studs are used to buy different Batmobiles, decorate the Batcave, purchase Batsuits, and outfit other playable characters in the game. If you’re chasing trophies or achievements, many are linked to studs or require spending studs.
Important early upgrades include:
- Hyper Combo
- Stud Magnet
- Stealthy Studs
All of these cost only one brick each and are usually available by the end of Chapter 1. Prioritizing them will help you gather more studs faster, making it easier to unlock everything later in the game when spending studs becomes a major focus.
