Epic Games announced that “Fortnite” is once again accessible on Apple’s App Store worldwide. The popular online shooter had been pulled from both Apple’s and Google’s stores in 2020 after Epic tried to bypass their payment systems. The game made its return to Apple’s U.S. App Store following a favorable court ruling, and it reappeared on Google Play after Epic reached an agreement with Google.
Epic expressed confidence that, once Apple reveals its costs, global regulators will push back against what they call “exorbitant” fees. The company believes this marks the beginning of the end for what’s often referred to as the “Apple Tax” around the globe. However, “Fortnite” remains unavailable for Australian users despite Epic winning a case there last summer, where it accused Apple and Google of abusing their dominant market positions.
In March, Epic revealed plans to lay off over 1,000 employees, citing a decline in the game’s popularity and the financial toll of ongoing legal battles.
