Vampire Crawlers features many enemies similar to those in Vampire Survivors, with the Red Death being the most memorable. In this universe, the Red Death is the classic Grim Reaper figure. It initially appears as an obstacle that signals the end of your run, indicating you’ve completed the current dungeon and can move on.
However, you can choose to fight the Red Death as an optional boss. Be prepared—this won’t be easy—and you’ll need to meet certain conditions before the fight begins. Here’s everything you need to know about how to face and defeat the Red Death in Vampire Crawlers.
### How To Fight The Red Death
To trigger the fight against Death, you must finish any dungeon while having at least one Revival (shown as a cake icon in the top right corner). When you meet this requirement, you’ll see a second option on the Stage Completed screen: Revive. If you select this, a battle against the Red Death will begin.
To have at least one Revive, you should increase your Revival stat in one of the following ways:
– Play as Krochi, who starts with a full Revive and gains a small percentage each time you use a Wild Card.
– Upgrade your Revival Power Up, which grants one Revive.
– Use the Tirajisú card, which boosts your Revival by ten percent (but it gets destroyed after use).
The first two methods are the easiest for securing at least one Revive, but if you combine Wild Cards effectively, Tirajisú can provide a significant boost.
Before starting the fight, it’s recommended to have certain items equipped: Draw, Bracer, Clock Lancet, and a few Wild Cards not destroyed after use, plus some Tomes—especially if they contain Gems that reduce Mana costs. Gems that boost your combo or mana regeneration between turns are also helpful.
### How To Defeat The Red Death
Fighting the Red Death is about endurance and avoiding mistakes, as it can wipe you out with a single hit. It attacks with 333 damage when all six of its eyes are open. If your character isn’t built with multiple Hollow Hearts or similar upgrades, a single hit will likely end your run.
The Clock Lancet is crucial here: when only one eye remains open, use it (or a card with its Gem) to freeze the Red Death. This prevents it from attacking and resets its eye countdown.
To stay prepared, make sure you have:
– Increased hand size.
– Bracers equipped.
– Draw cards.
– Tomes that provide Mana, allowing frequent use of Clock Lancet.
Using Crawlers that draw when you play cards of specific colors can also help, especially if you’ve unlocked slots via Power Ups. Playing as Krochi is advantageous for a Revive boost.
Your main strategy should be to maximize damage, keep your Wild Cards active to sustain your combo, and use Tomes to replenish Mana as needed. Always pay close attention to the eyes on the Red Death. Adjust your combo timing according to how many eyes are left to avoid losing momentum when you need to freeze it.
Remember, don’t use the same card more than four times in a single turn—that will break your combo and trigger the Trickster enemy.
This fight tests your endurance because the Red Death has one million HP. Consistent damage output and staying alive longer will eventually wear down its health, especially if you’ve increased your damage through extra projectiles and boosts.
### Final Blow and Rewards
Keep attacking until you deal the final hit. Afterward, you’ll see an opportunity to collect extra coins from your relics. Keep fighting and stay ready for the moment to land the finishing blow.
Once you defeat the Red Death, you might be surprised to see a shovel for completing the level. Interacting with it causes another Red Death to appear and eliminate your character. You can restart the fight if you wish.
Interestingly, defeating the Red Death doesn’t grant any achievements or in-game messages—it’s a hidden challenge. However, your reward is unlocking the last character, MissingN0, who becomes available at the Inn after the fight.
