In Crimson Desert, you can find and collect many different weapons and armor pieces during your long journey. Most of these upgrades will help you survive or become a better fighter. However, some items offer special benefits for smaller activities in the game.
One such item is the Deceiver’s Fedora. This hat allows you to cheat in the Duo and Five Cards mini-games, which can be very helpful if you want to win bigger bets. Here’s how to get and use the Deceiver’s Fedora so you always have an edge when gambling.
Deceiver’s Fedora Location
To find the Deceiver’s Fedora, head northwest to the main city in Tashkalp, in the Crimson Desert area. If you’re still in Hernand, this will be a long and risky trip because the Crimson Desert is a tough place you shouldn’t visit until the later parts of the story.
It’s best to stick to the main roads to avoid dangerous fights. Try not to engage with bandits, soldiers, or monsters, as they can seriously damage unrefined gear.
Once you reach the city, go to the northeast corner of the arena. Instead of entering the fighting pit, go up the stairs on the left. In the stands, you’ll find a Mineral Merchant selling various crafting materials. Why a rock seller is at a fighting arena is a mystery, but that’s where he is.
Talk to the Mineral Merchant, then back out of the menu. You’ll get the option to give him a gift. Building trust with him to 100 is necessary to obtain the Fedora. To do this, keep gifting him copper or silver bags until his trust meter hits maximum.
This process can take some time, so an easier method is to give the merchant a gold bar instead. To get a gold bar quickly, visit the Demeniss Wildlife Park just south of the main city. Equip your lantern and look for masked guests with gold outlines in their clothing. Use a thief mask, sneak up, and pickpocket them to steal a gold bar. Afterward, run away to avoid witnesses and return to the arena. Giving the merchant the gold bar will instantly max out his trust.
With trust at 100, he will sell you the Deceiver’s Fedora for 97.05 Silver. You can equip and use it whenever you want. While it only has 2 Defense and no slots for Abyss Gear, it’s not suited for combat. Instead, wear it during Duo or Five Cards to cheat and improve your chances of winning.
How to Use the Deceiver’s Fedora
To activate the Fedora’s cheat function, start a Duo or Five Cards game with it equipped, then hold down the Left Trigger. This will enable X-ray vision, revealing all your opponents’ cards. With this info, winning becomes much easier since there’s no guesswork about their possible hands.
Keep in mind, the game’s time does not slow down when you activate the Fedora. To make the most of it, activate the cheat right after cards are dealt. You can also freeze time by holding down left on the D-Pad, which shows all possible hand types and gives you a moment to analyze your opponents’ cards.
Interestingly, it seems the AI never calls you out for cheating, even though you can accuse them. There is no penalty for using the Fedora, so if you struggle to win in these mini-games for faction quests, getting the Deceiver’s Fedora is highly recommended. It may be a costly buy early on, but it will save you a lot of trouble.
