Each planet in Honkai: Star Rail features its own distinct currencies, which players can use to exchange for rewards and special services related to that particular world. These currencies are often linked to specific interactions and quests found on the planet, making them exclusive to those locations.
For instance, the Memory Crystal Shards can be discovered throughout Amphoreus. Introduced in the 3.0 update, these remnants can greatly assist you in navigating the expansive, Greek-inspired landscapes. Moreover, certain items are only available through special shops that require these shards for exchange. Therefore, if you aim to achieve complete exploration, you’ll need to collect these shards diligently.
What Are Memory Crystal Shards?
Memory Crystal Shards are special rewards acquired from various exploration tasks on Amphoreus. You can find them by completing quests, engaging with unique interactions, or conversing with specific NPCs like the Chrysos Heirs.
These shards can all be collected in the ‘Eternal Holy City’ Okhema, serving two primary functions: purchasing keepsakes and helping locate the scattered Creation Nymphs in the areas. However, keep in mind that there is a limit to the number of shards you can acquire from each source.
Memory Crystal Shard Locations In Amphoreus
Performing certain activities in Okhema for the first time ensures you receive at least one Memory Crystal Shard each time. While most sources offer one-time-only shards, there is a specific location where you can gather a significant amount weekly. Any additional shards discovered can only be found once.
Here’s a comprehensive list of places where you can collect these shards:
Strange Crystal
The best source for shards can be found by interacting with the Strange Crystal located in the Hall of Respite bathroom gifted to you and Dan Heng during the story. This crystal grants 10 Memory Crystal Shards each week upon interaction. Make sure to visit it once the servers reset on Monday for an easy way to earn extra currency.
Interacting With Chrysos Heirs And Essential NPCs
Once you complete the Trailblaze Missions, the main characters residing in Amphoreus will become accessible throughout the city. Chatting with them can net you some shards. Here’s where to locate them in Okhema:
- Aglaea: Directly in front of the Hero’s Bath teleport.
- Castorice: Found in the hallway behind the Hall of Respite teleport, admiring the flowers.
- Mydei: Climb the buildings near the Marmoreal Market teleport (like in the main story), and you will find Mydei at the top near a chest.
- Tribbie: Locate her next to the Garden of Life teleport. Be aware that talking with her "sisters" won’t yield additional shards.
Tip: You don’t need to go through all the dialogue; discussing briefly and leaving the conversation is sufficient to earn the shard.
Beyond that, some shards can be acquired by interacting with merchants in Okhema if you make a purchase through dialogue (not using the typical Shop option). Buying from vendors will cost no more than 12,000 Credits even if you choose the priciest items.
The vendors include:
- Demetria: Located at the Marmoreal Market, to the left after teleporting. Choose “I’d like to check out the fresh fruits here” and select any fruit.
- Kyros: Found directly in front of the Marmoreal Market teleport, next to Demetria. Request “What foreign dishes do you have on the menu?” as those options are the least expensive.
- Xenia: Teleport to the Overflowing Bath and then backtrack through the water to discover her. After the first discussion, choose "I want to buy something.” Both options available cost 10,000 Credits.
Lastly, when you visit Baccus, found directly in front of the Court of Seasons teleport, tasting Ambrosia for the first time rewards you with a Memory Crystal Shard. However, subsequent sips only grant achievements.
Adventure Missions
Every mission listed in the Amphoreus’ Annals subsection rewards players with two Memory Crystal Shards each. These missions often provide background on the planet and may even unlock hidden NPCs across different areas.
As of 3.0, the following missions will grant you Memory Crystal Shards:
- Contradiction
- Disjointed Memories
- Elsewhere
- Love in the Time of Black Tide
- Secret Ceremony
- The Girl, the Coins, and Homeland
Completing the Trailblaze Missions in Amphoreus will also unlock additional Adventure Missions that award you with five shards each, although these tend to be lengthier. Some of these missions are essential for accessing specific zones, so prioritize completing them:
- Disquieting Dream
- I Once Was In Arcadia
- Whereto Shall We Go
Exploration Objectives
In addition to Nymphs and Chests, Okhema offers unique interactions that reward players with a single shard upon first engagement. A prominent example includes the Verax Leo quiz, as shown during the main story.
You may have encountered these objectives scattered throughout Okhema. If not, you can refer to the map above to find one grouped closely together in a section of the city.
- Riding a Dromas: Interact with the Dromas situated on the road beside the Marmoreal Palace teleport.
- Engaging with the Water Lyre in the Bath House: Teleport to the Hall of Respite and walk back to the area before your room, next to where Castorice is located. The Lyre will be there waiting for you.
- Receiving a Blessing from the basins: Located directly to the right of Damionis, near the Okhema Market icon.
- Completing Verax Leo’s quiz (outside of the Main Story): Teleport to the Court of Seasons and proceed straight ahead. The correct answer is “A pillow.”
- Finding a Living Flames of Georios: It resides in the same room as the Water Lyre.
- Breaking a decoration in Okhema: Attack the wall plate decoration next to the stairs. After speaking with an NPC, repair the plate to receive a shard.
- Interacting with a Holy Candle: Located just behind Damionis, near the benches.
Tip: You only need to discover one of these objectives in Okhema to obtain a shard, but locating all will reward you with an extra achievement.
How To Use Memory Crystal Shards
To make use of your Memory Crystal Shards, simply converse with the Garmentmaker in any area of Amphoreus. For each shard, they will reveal the whereabouts of a missing Nymph within the current zone, which is particularly handy when you’re only missing a few and don’t wish to search extensively.
Primarily, shards are used for exchanges at Janus’ Steed, located near the Court of Seasons teleport. This shop offers items like Records for the Astral Express and exclusive food recipes. Each item can only be purchased once, and the inventory doesn’t get replenished.
You can also buy Mysterious Gift boxes, which will reward you with decorations for your Hall of Respite room. The Small box (costing five shards) adds a toy sea seal doll to the pool beside the Strange Crystal, while the Large box (15 shards) gives you a Little Chimera that will stand in your room.
Tip: Stocking up on Memory Crystal Shards is wise for exploring future zones in Amphoreus. The Janus’ Steed shop could also be updated in future versions, making having extra shards beneficial.
