Combat Mechanics in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
The combat mechanics in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 closely resemble those of its predecessor. At the beginning of this sequel, Henry faces a challenging fall that sets him back, requiring him to relearn many of the sword fighting skills he previously mastered in Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
Fortunately, he soon hears about a skilled swordsman who can help him restore his confidence. Players can locate Tomcat at the nomad camp in the southwestern part of the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 map. Tomcat is eager to teach Henry various combat techniques. Some players find it challenging to master these combos initially, but understanding them is crucial for executing the powerful Master Strike move.
Mastering the Horizontal Slice with Tomcat
Performing the Second Combo
Once you’ve tracked down Tomcat and requested his training, step into the arena and speak with him again. He will start by teaching you a basic right-left-right combo. After you’ve practiced this twice, he will introduce you to a more advanced maneuver: the horizontal slice.
Contrary to what Tomcat suggests, executing this combo is relatively straightforward. First, position your sword by moving your mouse or joystick upward. Next, strike downward and quickly shift the motion to the right to attack again. This second strike will swing your sword back to the left, allowing you to easily follow up with one more attack to complete the combo. Miraculously, you only need two movements to perform the combo, as the momentum will carry your sword into the right position for the final strike.
Defeating Tomcat in a Duel
Conquer Tomcat to Learn the Master Strike
If Henry wants to learn the Master Strike, he must first defeat Tomcat in a duel. This can be quite challenging, as Tomcat is a fierce opponent. The initial combos you learn are ineffective against him, as he’ll often counter your attacks with his own Master Strike. Here are some tips that can make winning this fight more manageable.
Start by blocking Tomcat’s strikes to redirect his attacks. By blocking in one direction, you create an opening on the opposite side, where you can land your own blows.
One important piece of advice is to avoid challenging Tomcat immediately after learning the basic combos. Your skills in KCD2, such as strength and agility, may not be sufficiently developed yet, and you might still be ill-equipped. Be aware that Tomcat often finishes his combos with a devastating stab, so wear a cuirass and chainmail to mitigate damage. Using a shield can also be extremely helpful; since Tomcat tends to be aggressive, effectively blocking his strikes is crucial. Remember, there’s no need to rush. You only need to land a few hits on Tomcat to win, so be patient and strike when the moment is right.
Once you successfully defeat Tomcat and gain knowledge of the Master Strike, you will be well-equipped to tackle the combat challenges in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Throughout your journey, Henry will face increasingly formidable foes, so it’s wise to keep checking in with Tomcat and other master sword fighters to polish your skills and keep your weapons in top condition.
