LAHORE – Pakistani YouTuber Rajab Butt was released shortly after being arrested on charges related to the illegal possession of a lion cub and displaying weapons during his wedding celebrations in Lahore.
The Chung Police took action after the Wildlife Department conducted a raid, prompted by reports of the lion cub allegedly being given to Butt as a wedding gift. The Punjab Wildlife Department emphasized strict regulations that ban ownership of lions without a proper license.
Following the raid, Butt was taken to a local police station but managed to obtain bail shortly after his arrest. He updated his followers about the incident, and a photo of him behind bars circulated online, raising concerns among his fans.
Rajab Butt’s wedding came under scrutiny due to the extravagant gifts he received from fellow TikTokers, which included a gold iPhone, a bouquet made of dollar bills, a family trip to Umrah, and the lion cub. These lavish presents, which gained significant attention on social media, sparked a range of reactions.
Many users criticized the display of wealth, finding it in poor taste, and accused influencers of promoting a culture of superficiality. Concerns about animal welfare also emerged, prompting some people to advocate for simpler and more modest celebrations, especially in light of the high levels of poverty in the country.
