Dajin Heavy Industry, a leading Chinese manufacturer of offshore wind turbine foundations, announced it has secured an order for two large bulk carriers valued at approximately USD 153 million from a Greek client. This follows the company’s first-ever orders for such vessels last month.
The company will construct the two ships, each with a deadweight tonnage of 211,000, for a subsidiary of a well-known Greek shipping firm. Both vessels are scheduled for completion in 2029.
The customer is a prominent Greek shipping and fleet management company specializing in dry bulk, container, and tanker operations. Dajin Heavy highlighted that this is their first collaboration with this client.
This new contract demonstrates growing international confidence in Dajin Heavy’s capacity to produce cargo ships. Initially focused on offshore wind power equipment, the company shifted toward shipbuilding after completing and launching its shipbuilding base in Panjin, a coastal city in China’s Liaoning Province, earlier this year.
Previously, on April 23, Dajin Heavy secured orders for eight 210,000 DWT bulk carriers through two deals with European clients, totaling nearly USD 591 million. This move marked the company’s official entry into the European shipbuilding market. One deal was valued at about USD 294 million, and the other at approximately USD 297 million.
Shares of Dajin Heavy closed today at CNY 83.21 (USD 12.25), down 2.1 percent in Shenzhen. Nonetheless, the stock has increased over 60 percent since the end of last year, continuing an upward trend that began in September 2024.
