On March 2nd, Tech Insights reported that while many robots are still performing tasks like walking the runway, dancing, or doing flips on stage, Xiaomi has taken a different route. Xiaomi’s robots are already actively working inside their automotive factory, conducting assembly line tasks such as screwing in bolts.

The company released several videos showcasing Xiaomi robots in action within the Xiaomi automobile assembly plant, demonstrating their capabilities in real manufacturing environments. In one clip, a robot is seen installing car badges with remarkable precision, starting by peeling off protective film before seamlessly attaching the badge to the vehicle’s front section.

In the factory setting, the robots operated for three continuous hours at dedicated stations for automatic screw fastening. Impressively, they achieved a success rate of over 90% on both sides and maintained an assembly speed of up to 76 seconds per vehicle, meeting the rigorous demands of automotive production lines.

Beyond just screwing tasks, Xiaomi robots also handle material transport, such as moving boxes of parts, and are even capable of installing car badges during the manufacturing process. One video shows a robot carefully removing a film from the badge before accurately placing it on the vehicle’s front – a smooth, flowing process.

Xiaomi emphasizes that these initiatives mark only the beginning of their humanoid robots’ integration into automotive manufacturing at a larger scale. However, important challenges remain, such as increasing production speed and ensuring consistent quality rates. To fully realize their vision, Xiaomi aims to develop more advanced techniques for full-body coordination during tasks, as well as harnessing the dexterity of their robotic hands to boost efficiency.

The company reports ongoing deployment and validation efforts across various critical assembly stages. Progress in these areas will be shared in future updates, as Xiaomi continues to push forward in automating its vehicle production with innovative robotic solutions.
