As Tom Cruise famously says, “See you at the movies.” Warner Bros. has revealed the release dates for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, the latest Evil Dead film, and M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming mystery project.
The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is set to hit theaters on December 17, 2027. Andy Serkis will take the helm as director, reprising his iconic role as Gollum, the sinister character he introduced in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Oscar-winning team behind 2003’s Return of the King—Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens—will produce alongside Zane Weiner. The screenplay will be crafted by Walsh, Boyens, Phoebe Gittins, and Arty Papageorgiou.
The Lord of the Rings franchise previously ventured into anime with the upcoming The War of the Rohirrim, slated for 2024, but it faced challenges, receiving mixed reviews and only grossing $20.5 million against a $30 million budget.
In the realm of horror, the next chapter of the Evil Dead series will premiere on July 24, 2026. Souheila Yacoub, known for her role in Dune: Part Two, will star in this sequel. Sébastien Vaniček will direct, with a screenplay co-written by him and Florent Bernard. Series creator Sam Raimi will produce, teaming up again with long-time collaborator Rob Tapert. New Line Cinema and Sony Pictures will co-finance this project.

The upcoming Evil Dead film follows the success of 2023’s Evil Dead Rise, which became a box office hit, earning $147 million globally on a production budget below $20 million.
Shyamalan will pivot from psychological thrillers to explore a supernatural love story with Remain. This film features Jake Gyllenhaal, Phoebe Dynevor, and Ashley Walters. Shyamalan will also produce, joined by Ashwin Rajan, Marc Bienstock, and Theresa Park. Remain centers on Tate Donovan, a New York architect who visits Cape Cod to design a home for a friend after exiting a psychiatric facility. While grappling with his sister’s death, he encounters Wren, a young woman who alters his perspective on life.
This movie draws inspiration from an original narrative by Shyamalan and novelist Nicholas Sparks, who is known for romantic bestsellers like The Notebook and A Walk to Remember. Both Shyamalan and Sparks are working on their respective screenplay and book. The film and the novel will follow the same storyline and characters.
Sparks’ novel is set to be released on October 7, 2025, while Shyamalan’s film will premiere in theaters a year later on October 23, 2026.
