First lady Melania Trump stated on Monday that it’s time for ABC to “take a stand” regarding Jimmy Kimmel after comments made by the late-night host before a shooting incident near a group of journalists and politicians over the weekend.
“Enough is enough. It’s time for ABC to step up. How many more times will ABC’s leadership allow Kimmel’s appalling behavior to harm our community?” she posted on X.
Kimmel, in a parody aired last week ahead of the White House Correspondents Dinner, remarked: “Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like a widow expecting.”
President Donald Trump and Melania Trump had to leave the dinner abruptly Saturday night following a shooting in the lobby of the Washington Hilton. The gunman, identified as Cole Allen, broke through a checkpoint and shot at Secret Service agents, injuring one, before being subdued and detained.
Disney and ABC have not responded publicly yet.
In September, the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) chief pressured TV broadcasters to consider removing Kimmel from the air. ABC temporarily suspended Kimmel’s show that same month over comments he made about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Just hours prior to the suspension, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr warned that local broadcasters airing Kimmel’s program might face fines or license revocations, urging them to “step up.” His stance drew criticism from the entertainment industry and politicians on both sides, with Republican Senator Ted Cruz comparing Carr’s threats to those of organized crime leaders.
During September, Sinclair and Nexstar Media Group briefly took Kimmel’s show off the air on nearly 70 ABC affiliates, reaching approximately 25% of U.S. households. Carr aims to simplify the process for local stations to preempt national broadcasts.
