A groundbreaking robotics company has emerged as the first in the world to utilize “electric-driven robots” to break Boston Dynamics’ patent for somersault capabilities. MagicLab, the innovative firm behind this achievement, has made its advancements public and is showcasing a wider array of skills exhibited by its humanoid robots.

Among the remarkable abilities of these robots is coffee-making, as they have achieved the status of the first humanoid robot capable of autonomously creating latte art. The robot skillfully shakes its wrist while holding a milk pitcher, creating a stunning latte design that impresses even experienced baristas.

In addition to crafting artistic coffee drinks, MagicLab’s robots can also serve as food distributors in factories, guide people indoors and outdoors, and even take dogs for walks.

Founded in December 2022, MagicLab specializes in universal robotics technology and artificial intelligence, working on a global scale. The humanoid robot is just one part of the company’s diverse product lineup, which also includes bionic quadrupedal robots and industrial automation solutions, all aimed at various markets such as homes, industry, and commerce.

Currently, the company is developing applications for 3C scenarios (computer, communication, and consumer electronics), with plans to conduct trial operations by the end of the year. In factory settings, the robots have already demonstrated a 30% increase in efficiency during cleaning equipment performance tests while reducing the need for human intervention by 70%.

MagicLab focuses on developing core robotics technologies, including servo motors and actuators for mechanical arms and four-legged robots. The company believes that the ultimate form of general-purpose robots will resemble humanoid robots. Their innovative D190 joint module, with a rated output torque of 150 Nm, has been key to enabling somersaults by carefully adjusting weight distribution and using specialized drivers to manage voltage fluctuations during flips.

The team not only emphasizes hardware development but also incorporates advanced algorithms that facilitate complex task execution and physical interactions, allowing the robots to imitate human decisions and behaviors in various scenarios.

As part of their long-term vision, MagicLab has defined five stages of humanoid robot development, ranging from M0, which is purely experimental, to M4, representing the pinnacle of multifunctional robotic capabilities akin to a physical world version of Siri. Currently, their robots are transitioning from the M1 stage, where they perform basic tasks, to the M2 stage, where they can start replacing human roles in specific commercial settings.

MagicLab has experienced rapid growth, expanding to a team of over 100 members, with more than 80% of the team dedicated to research and development. The focus remains on creating robots that can effectively replace humans in targeted commercial environments, driving the development of specialized applications with practical value. The company aims to blend robotics technology with various industries to amplify the significance and utility of robotic solutions in everyday life.
