Google resolves Android app issues after users face crashes

developers at the google search dashboard said they fixed the glitch effecting android app photo pixabay

On Saturday night and into the early hours of Sunday (PT), numerous Android users faced a severe malfunction of the Google app, which repeatedly displayed the message “Google keeps stopping.” Google reported that the issue was fully resolved by 1:11 AM PT on Sunday.

This problem mainly affected users trying to perform searches within the app, causing it to crash as soon as they launched it. Users with older versions of the app were also impacted, and attempts to uninstall updates through the App Info feature did not remedy the situation, further complicating matters, as noted by 9to5Google.

When users tried to open the Google app from their home screens, it crashed instantly. The Google Search widget also encountered problems, briefly showing previous search entries before failing. The Pixel Launcher search bar displayed results for a moment before shutting down, Google Discover was unable to load, and the Voice Search microphone function caused the app to fail as well. Each interaction resulted in the recurring “Google keeps stopping” error.

The glitch affected both the stable and beta versions of the Google Search app on devices running Android 15, 14, and earlier versions, impacting brands like Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy. However, other Google services—including Gemini, Google Assistant, Google Lens, and Circle to Search—functioned normally. Users could still access google.com via Chrome for Android, and platforms outside the Android ecosystem were unaffected.

By around 11:00 PM PT on Saturday, some users reported that the app was beginning to work again. Google acknowledged the “service disruption” at 11:07 PM PT and recommended that users clear the app’s cache and data as a temporary solution. The company confirmed that everything was back to normal by 1:11 AM PT on Sunday.

Earlier, the Google search status dashboard indicated:
“The issue with service has been addressed, and our systems are stabilizing, although we’re still working on a full resolution. Affected users who continue to face problems with the Google App on Android can try clearing the app cache and data through the Settings menu. We anticipate an update within 12 hours.” Later, they updated:
“We have resolved the service issue. No further updates are expected.”
