Over 285 million inter-regional passenger trips are expected across the country on Sunday, marking the first day of this year’s nine-day Spring Festival holiday. This number indicates a 10.5% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Transport.
Road travel is projected to rise by 10.8% year-over-year, reaching approximately 268.75 million trips on Sunday. Meanwhile, rail and air journeys are anticipated to grow by 4.3% and 6.4%, respectively. Waterway passenger travel, however, is expected to surge significantly, increasing by 28.1% compared to the previous year.
This year’s Chinese New Year falls on February 17. Although the official holiday lasts nine days, travel activity began early on February 2 and is expected to continue through March 13.
