DUBAI: Iranian Minister of Intelligence Esmail Khatib announced on state television on Sunday that sensitive Israeli documents recently obtained by Tehran will be revealed soon, categorizing them as a “treasure trove” that would enhance Iran’s offensive capabilities.
According to Iranian state media, intelligence agencies have accessed a significant collection of sensitive Israeli documents. Khatib indicated that these documents pertain to Israel’s nuclear facilities, as well as its relationships with the U.S., Europe, and other nations, along with its defensive capacities.
There has not been an immediate official comment from the Israeli government.
It remains uncertain if this information leak was connected to a previously reported cyberattack on an Israeli nuclear research facility last year, which Tehran is now disclosing amid rising tensions over its nuclear ambitions.
“Acquiring this treasure trove took time and required careful security protocols. While the methods of acquisition will remain confidential, the documents will be revealed shortly,” Khatib stated, adding that the volume of documents is substantial — “thousands of documents would be an understatement.”
In 2018, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that Israeli operatives had seized a massive “archive” of Iranian documents revealing Tehran’s more extensive nuclear work than previously acknowledged.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump had previously threatened to conduct airstrikes against Iran if a nuclear agreement was not reached, but he reportedly obstructed an Israeli plan to strike Iranian nuclear sites in favor of pursuing negotiations with Tehran.
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated on Wednesday that halting uranium enrichment is “100%” against Iran’s interests, disregarding a key demand from the U.S. in ongoing talks aimed at resolving a long-standing dispute over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.
Western authorities assert that Iran is enriching uranium to a high degree of fissile purity, nearing the threshold suitable for atomic bomb fuel. However, Iran has consistently denied any intentions of pursuing nuclear weapons.
