If you’ve forgotten your password and need to reset your HP Chromebook from the sign-in screen, don’t worry—it’s a simple process. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get back into your device.

First, turn on your Chromebook and get to the sign-in screen. When you see the login prompt, look for the “Forgot password?” link. If this option appears, click on it. Sometimes, the Chromebook will prompt you to enter your Google account password or ask for your account verification.

If you don’t see a “Forgot password?” link, you’ll need to reset your device to its factory settings. Keep in mind, this will erase all the data stored on your Chromebook, so only do this if you’ve backed up your important files or don’t mind losing them.

To perform a factory reset, follow these steps:

  1. Turn your Chromebook off completely.
  2. Press and hold the following keys at the same time: Esc + Refresh (the circular arrow key), then press the Power button.
  3. Keep holding the Esc and Refresh keys until a recovery screen appears.
  4. When the recovery screen shows up, press Ctrl + D. This will prompt a confirmation to turn on OS verification.
  5. Press Enter to confirm and start the reset process.
  6. Your Chromebook will restart and begin the reset process. Wait patiently—it may take a few minutes.

Once the reset is finished, your Chromebook will restart and guide you through the initial setup process. During set up, you can create a new login password or sign in with your Google account credentials.

Remember, it’s a good habit to keep your password written down or stored securely, so you don’t get locked out again. If you run into issues during this process, visiting HP support or Google’s help pages can give you additional guidance tailored to your specific model.

This easy reset method can be a lifesaver when you forget your password, helping you regain access without too much trouble.
