If your printer shows as offline, even though it appears to be connected properly and works fine when checking the status report, don’t worry—you’re not alone. Here are some simple steps to get your printer back online:
First, make sure your printer is turned on and connected to your Wi-Fi network. Sometimes, the Wi-Fi connection can drop without your notice. Try restarting your printer and your Wi-Fi router completely—turn them off, wait for about 30 seconds, then turn them back on. This can reset the connection.
Next, check your computer’s printer settings. On your computer, go to the Control Panel or Settings menu, find your printer, and see if it’s marked as offline. If it is, right-click and select “Use Printer Online” or a similar option. This helps your computer recognize that the printer is ready to print.
Another thing to try is removing and adding the printer again. Remove the printer from your device’s list of printers, then add it back fresh. This often fixes connection glitches.
Make sure your printer is set as the default printer too. Sometimes, other printers can interfere with printing commands. Setting your usual printer as the default can solve the issue.
Lastly, if none of these work, check for any software updates for your printer or your computer. Updated drivers can sometimes resolve communication problems.
If you follow these steps, chances are good your printer will show as online again and be ready to print your test page. If not, reaching out to the printer manufacturer’s support may be the next best step.
