If you’re receiving notifications about your storage in RDS, it’s likely because the system is monitoring how close your allocated storage is to the maximum limit you’ve set for autoscaling. These alerts usually happen when your current storage is nearing that maximum threshold, even if you still have free space available.
This situation often occurs when autoscaling is turned on, and the maximum storage limit is set too low. For example, if your database currently uses 300 GB out of a 350 GB maximum limit, RDS will warn you that it’s approaching the limit, even if you still have 200 GB of free space left.
To fix this issue and prevent those repeat notifications, follow these steps:
First, increase the maximum storage threshold. If your current max is 350 GB, consider raising it to 500 GB or more. This gives your database more room to grow without triggering alerts. Make sure you keep an eye on your storage needs before setting a higher limit.
Next, review your autoscaling settings in the RDS console. Double-check the maximum storage limit to confirm it’s set appropriately for your future needs and adjust it if necessary.
Remember, these alerts are about the configured maximum threshold for autoscaling, not your current free space. Adjusting that limit will allow your database to grow smoothly without constant warning notifications.
