If you’re working with an HP ProDesk G5 Mini and want to upgrade or replace the M.2 NVMe SSD, here’s a simple guide to help you through the process. This upgrade can boost your system’s speed and performance, making your daily tasks much smoother.

First, turn off the computer and unplug all cables. Find a clean and flat workspace to work comfortably. You’ll need a small Phillips screwdriver to open the case, so have that ready.

Next, carefully remove the screws on the back of the mini desktop to open the case. Gently lift or slide off the cover. Inside, locate the M.2 slot; it’s a small, rectangular slot usually near the memory modules. The SSD is secured with a tiny screw at one end.

Remove the screw holding the current SSD in place. Carefully slide out the existing M.2 NVMe SSD, holding it by its edges. Be gentle to avoid damaging the connector or other components.

Take your new M.2 NVMe SSD and align it with the slot at a 30-degree angle. Gently insert it into the slot, then press it down flat. Secure the SSD with the screw you removed earlier, tightening it just enough to hold it firmly in place—avoid over-tightening.

Once the new SSD is installed, replace the case cover and screw it back into place. Reconnect all cables and power on your PC again. When your system starts, it should recognize the new drive automatically, but you might need to enter BIOS to check or adjust the boot order.

If you plan to use the new SSD as your primary drive, you’ll need to reinstall the operating system or clone your existing drive to the new one before shutting down. For additional storage or backup purposes, you can simply format the new drive once the system recognizes it.

Upgrading your M.2 NVMe SSD on an HP ProDesk G5 Mini is straightforward and can significantly improve your computer’s speed. Just take your time, handle components carefully, and follow these steps to complete the upgrade smoothly.
