Experiencing a stuck BitLocker screen on your HP ZBook can be frustrating, especially when you’re trying to reinstall Windows 11 Pro. Here’s a simple guide to help you bypass the BitLocker lock and perform a clean installation of the operating system.

First, since you mention the drive isn’t holding any vital data, the most straightforward approach is to completely wipe the drive. To do this, you’ll need to access the drive outside of the locked state.

Start by creating a Windows 11 Pro installation media, such as a bootable USB drive. You can do this on another computer by downloading the Windows Media Creation Tool from Microsoft’s website and following the instructions to create a bootable USB.

Once you have your bootable USB ready, insert it into your locked HP ZBook and turn on the device. Immediately press the key to enter the boot menu, typically F9 or ESC, depending on your model. Select the USB drive from the options to boot from it.

When the Windows installation screen appears, proceed to the language and preferences page, then click ‘Next’. You’ll see an option to ‘Install now’. Click it.

When prompted to enter a product key, choose ‘I don’t have a product key’ if applicable, and select the version of Windows 11 Pro you wish to install.

On the next screen, you’ll see partition options. Here, delete all existing partitions on the drive to remove BitLocker encryption. To do this, select each partition and click ‘Delete’. This will erase everything on your drive and remove any encryption.

Once all partitions are deleted, you’ll have unallocated space. Select this space and click ‘Next’ to proceed with the clean installation. Windows will format the drive during the process and install a fresh copy of the operating system without being locked by BitLocker.

After the installation completes, set up your Windows account and preferences. Your drive will now be accessible and ready for use.

This process basically forces a full format, bypassing the BitLocker lock since the encryption is tied to the previous system setup. It’s a quick and effective way to regain control of your device when data loss isn’t a concern.

Feel free to follow these steps, and you should be able to get your HP ZBook running smoothly again.
