Additionally, the device can gently collect cells from the tube lining, rather than scraping or damaging tissue. Cells are gathered into a small chamber, decreasing the risk of injury and providing enough material for detailed testing.

In tests, researchers used the device on fallopian tubes removed during surgery, which were healthy. This allowed them to assess the device’s safety and functionality without the confounding effects of diseased tissue.

The findings indicated that the device could traverse the tubes easily, produce high-quality images, and gather abundant cells—all without causing noticeable tissue damage. These results suggest it could be safe for future use in clinical settings.

The team also found that the device’s signal output was consistently reliable, an important factor for potential diagnostic applications. Stable signals imply that the device could differentiate between normal and abnormal tissue changes in the future.

However, it’s important to recognize that this is an early-stage investigation. The device has yet to be tested on women with ovarian or fallopian tube cancer, so its effectiveness in detecting disease in real-world scenarios remains unconfirmed. Further research is necessary to determine its clinical utility.
