Survival in Aloft: Upgrading Your Tools and Weapons
In survival games like Aloft, the thrill often begins with minimal resources, leading players on a journey to steadily develop their arsenal, including weapons and tools. As you delve deeper into the game, enhancing these items becomes crucial to tackle stronger foes and optimize resource gathering.
In Aloft, you can enhance your weapons and tools at the Upgrade Station, which comprises four components. First, you’ll need to construct the Upgrade Station Frame, followed by building each upgrade feature to unlock all functionalities. The Upgrade Station features three main options: Coating, Customizing, and Sharpening.
How to Obtain the Upgrade Station
Unlocking the Upgrade Station Frame
To gain access to the Upgrade Station, the initial step is to obtain the Upgrade Station Frame. Crafting this frame requires not just the necessary materials, but also the Aloft crafting recipe. Fortunately, this recipe becomes available automatically after collecting one of the three attachment recipes related to the Upgrade Station. However, you’ll need to gather all three attachments to fully utilize the station, so be sure to explore each biome thoroughly.
Once you’ve gathered the required materials to build and complete the Upgrade Station, you can start constructing it and set it up on your home island. Below is a list of materials needed for each component:
Item | Required Materials |
---|---|
Upgrade Station Frame | 10x Stone & 10x Wood |
Customization | 5x Curved Wood, 3x Wool Thread, 1x Brightsun Yellow Pigment, 1x Azur Blue Sky Pigment, 1x Moonbloom Purple Pigment |
Coating | 5x Mykter Fiber & 5x Curved Wood |
Sharpening | 1x Wooden Cog, 5x Curved Wood, & 3x Hardstone |
Once you have all the necessary materials and have constructed the frame along with each attachment, you’re ready to use the Upgrade Station. Keep in mind that upgrading will also require additional materials.
Coating, Customizing, and Sharpening
With your Upgrade Station in place, you can interact with it to open a menu featuring three tabs.
-
Coating: Here, you can apply either an antidote or a fungicide to your weapon. The antidote increases the weapon’s damage and allows you to collect injured samples, while the fungicide slightly enhances damage but collects intact samples.
-
Customization: This feature lets you add Trinkets to your weapons, which provide various buffs. Make sure you have the Trinkets ready, as you’ll need them to apply any enhancements. For instance, the Storm Shell Trinket improves weapon performance in bad weather, while the Golden Feather Trinket boosts jump distance and charged attacks.
- Sharpening: This option provides a temporary boost to your weapon’s damage and harvesting efficiency. Maintaining sharpness is worthwhile if you have the necessary resources, as it significantly enhances your capabilities.
Maintenance Tips
Sharpening requires 2 Hardstones each time, so maintaining a steady supply is advisable to ensure you can continue sharpening your weapons.
While not mandatory, having the Upgrade Station is a significant quality-of-life improvement for players engaging with Aloft. The journey and challenge of survival are integral to the game’s appeal, but upgrading your tools will ultimately make exploring and enjoying the beautifully crafted world more manageable and efficient.
