The Witcher 3 is unexpectedly getting a new DLC expansion. CD Projekt Red has confirmed a release window for the upcoming content.
The third expansion for The Witcher 3, titled Songs of the Past, is officially in development and slated for release sometime in 2027. Unlike previous expansions, this new content won’t be available on last-generation consoles. It will only be playable on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
This expansion is being co-created by CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory, a studio founded by former CD Projekt Red developers. Fool’s Theory is also assisting with the upcoming The Witcher remake announced in 2022.
CD Projekt Red has stated that Songs of the Past will once again put players in the role of Geralt of Rivia for “a brand new adventure.” The story details are still under wraps, but fans are speculating it may serve as a lead-in to The Witcher 4, which was previewed with a cinematic trailer at the 2024 Game Awards.
The gaming community is buzzing with excitement, as The Witcher remains one of the most legendary series in video game history. Based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s books, the franchise began in 2007 with the original game. The third installment, released in 2015, continues to be highly praised, selling over 60 million copies and earning more than 250 awards, despite being released over a decade ago.
